grinding f*******ck me...

So about a week ago i started to notice a squeeling noise lightly up at the front of my car when breaking... so at work i take my tires off and wtf.... my pads are fine..... so i figure theres.prob some debrie and its just a little noisy... i even go the.mechanic next door to come look... he said its prob just crappy pads or you need to re surface the rotors cuz they get too smooth sometimes and create a harmonic noise to them.... so i put.my tires back on and.continued on hoping the noise would dissapear... it did... but now.... i was driving home and had.to stop quick for a light.. (not raining.. no ice) i stop for the light and hear a hear a horrible grinding noise.... i continued and didnt hear it again.. becuase i wasnt having.to stop abruptly.. i can stop at a normal speed and nothing... stops fine... but.if i have stop quicker i get this grinding noise... like abs.. but im not stopping that hard... not hard enough to have my abs kick on... i dont feel the peddle kick back either.. most.cars when ive stopped and abs kicks on u can lfeel like.a kickback in the peddle... im so lost right now. .. why is it grinding only with decent pressure applied to the breaks .. my pads are good... no debrie... abs isnt kickin on im sure... i remeber hearing about a tsb on people.hearing grinding noises but i cant find.it.. any search i do its all pads pads pads.. not my issue.... wtf!!!!!!!!! Lol this is turning into a problem car for me... i dont want to sell it.. i love my car! help!....

My car will create a grinding noise when I have to apply the brakes harder than usual. Perhaps it's because I have ceramic pads? It's not too loud when it happens, but it is noticeable.

You pull and check both pads inside and out to make sure you don't have uneven wear n one of the pads

I know you said it sounds like it coming from the front ... curious did you check the rears, sound when heard inside the car is very deceiving ... you could have a rear caliper that is starting to seize up, (most commonly the rear passenger side one) as it is the most exposed to the elements. might want to inspect the rears as well.

its def. coming from the front.... im not sure what pads are on it.. but theres tons of life on all of them... no uneven wear... no cracks... i just read somewher that you can get a chunk of metal in the half ceramic/metalic pads that creates a grinding noise but will edventually wear... to much of a gamble.... could it be that i just need to machine my rotors is that possible? could that really make your breaks grind only with a decent amount of pressure? ive breaked hard in the past... it didnt make that noise... is there a way to disbale my abs if i pull the fuse.. just to make sure its not a bad abs sensor? i guess tomorrow i will pull each tire off and inspect all of them...again... just to see if theres any change since last check...... im pissed guys!!!!!! but thanks for all ur help any more ideas would be appreciated!

As far as getting the rotors turned, I would have to ask were the rotors replaced when you did the pads? if not how many time have just the pads been swapped on the same old tired rotors?

so dumb..... im pretty sure its coming from the front... at least my first issue with the squeeling was maybe i think just because i had a prior issue with the front brakes im assuming and beleiving its coming from the front.... my rear pads are pretty bad.. its also getting colder and lots more moisture..... i have a solution!!!! new pads and slotted rotors all round!!!!!!!!!

this thread was officially a waste of everyones time!!!! thanks to me!!! lol but thanks for all the help, because i was too retarded to just look... it took 2 seconds to just look... im an idiot.... sorry...

That was my case and it was because the pads had cracks on them...and it was super loud and Napa was closed so went to Autozone got so pads and did a brake job like 8:45 looking like a Druggie in my Apartments lucky I had cross drilled and slotted no need to resurface....GL....

Never a waste of time, to ask a question or look for suggestions. I glad to hear you have located the source of them problem and perhaps picked up some useful idea's ... I know I had a similar issue with my brakes mine turned out to be a seized rear caliper but like you I could have sworn the sound was coming from the right front brake area, which is why I suggested the rears because sound source can be very deceiving.
