Car revs in neutral, but not in gear

So at work today I had the mechanic replace my alternator and belt. He took the car for a drive after and everything checked out. I drove the car home after work which is about a 35 mile trip. It is all highway, so the car was in 6th gear and I did about 65 the entire drive home. I slowed down and got of the exit and came to a stop at the end of the off ramp. Put the car into first and it wouldn't rev. It moved forward but didn't rev above 1000 rpm. I only had a half mile to get home so I put the hazards on and drove the rest of the way home like that. I don't think the car got above 10mph. I did notice that as I came down the hill to my street the revs increased, but I could stomp on the gas and nothing happened. I have not had the time to really investigate as it was getting dark when I got home and it was cold.
As far as mods go, the car is turbocharged, but I have not had any issues with it at all. I have a code that came up a couple of weeks ago and I have not had a chance to check it.
Any ideas what this could be. The car seems to idle really high (1500rpm) and revs freely in neutral.

Haven't had a chance to pull the code, but I decided to check the battery cable. It didn't feel loose but I tightened it up more anyways. Started the car up and let it warm up. It idled fine. Put it in gear and drove it around the neighborhood without a problem.

Yea, so I basically did nothing and the problem went away. I didn't drive the car to work today. I am going to take it for a drive tonight and see what happens.
