CRIKEY! Oil in the UIM - help?

So i installed my NWP BOP yesterday and found the VIAS covered in oil and a bit of oil in the bottom of the UIM. cleaned it all out but i imagine it'll continue until the cause is remedied.

i searched a bit and found some info regarding PCV etc (i was under the impression my 02 does NOT have a PCV). so, that said..anyone have any thoughts on why there is oil there and how i might go about fixing it?

Thank you!

You do have a PCV. An oil catch can will help. You can do an advanced search for oil catch cans in the 5th gen section.

Pretty common on the 5.5 gen.. 0/5/10W-40 will cut your oil consumption when you find out you are having that issue also..

Im using 0W-40 Mobile 1 and its cut my oil loss by 70%. No noticable issues, car still runs great. 138K

I had the Home Depot catch can. It was a PITA! In the winter time it would fill up with mostly fuel vapors and some oil, but I had to empty it every few days. Plus I was getting a nice oil smell in the cabin. When I took off the can the smell went bye bye!

Your manifold is sucking up oil mist through the pcv like a straw. try a official oil catch can. believe me. Home depot catch can is not reliable

Man put breather filters on the front and back valve covers and plug the intake mani on the back and you CAI in the front and call it a day. That is what I did. Oil in the Mani affects power.

after reading a bit on the home depot band-aid, i wasnt going that route. i'd rather drop in a proper catch can.

i'll continue reading on the topic for now, it'll probably be spring until i can get around to it now with the weather turning cold.

I had the same issue, but my car was a legitimate oil burner - losing a quart per 1000+ miles. I had oil in a couple of the spark plug chambers too. Replacing the rear valve cover (which has a pre-installed PCV, so don't buy another one) with a 6th Gen rear valve cover (it's cheaper, but fits the same and works better) helps a little.

on my list for next spring is plugs (who knows how old they are-could be original), so i'll probably have a replacement 6th gen cover on hand and may look at doing a catch can then.

my oil consumption isnt bad-probably 1-1.5 qts/oil change (3500 miles)
