My 2 friends and I were driving down to Savannah Ga for the new years celebration. We were in my max. We figured it would be better to take back roads b/c there would be less cops. Well I just got off a dirt road and back onto pavement when I noticed that I had No Power what so ever. I was real confused. So I pulled over thinking that I may have a flat tire or something, and to my surprise my rear rotors are glowing yellow!! The dang rear brakes had locked up. One side would have been weird enough, but both sides at the same time. We got the brakes unstuck but they still make a scraping sound when the car is moving...Has anyone else had anything like this happen, or does anyone know what it could be.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

your emergency brake cable stuck... not common, happens on lots of makes/models. Could be moisture then freezing temps. You can usually feel a lack of resistance on the emergency brake lever.

If so, dont mess with it. if you can show it stuck, then you might get warranty work. if not, they will just think you forgot to take off the emergency brake.

 

Is there anyway to fix it myself?
And would the ebrake just suddenly lockup in the middle of driving?

 

Your hand brake didn't release completely when you started the trip. At first the drag was slight and you didn't notice it. Then the rear brakes faded and you really didn't feel it. Finally the rear brakes got so hot the fluid boiled and forced the calipers closed. In addition to lubing the handbrake mechanism you will have to bleed all of the black stuff and bubbles out of the rear brakes and probably change the cinders you now have for brake pads.

I had this happen to one side(rear passenger side) last night. I haven't driven it since. Anyone know what it could be? how can I unlock it?

 

If it is one side then it most likely is a frozen/stuck caliper.

Pull the wheel and caliper off. Try moving the piston. If you can't move it you need a new caliper. If you can move it then flush your brake system of all old fluid.
