losing power at 2.5 rev

hey guys
I need help with my car. I have a 02 maxima 6 speed. Today I was teaching my wife nephew on how to drive a manual vehicle. I notice during the lesson on how to drive a manual car that my car was idling rough and when I rev the car above 2.5 rpm it will back fire and almost shut off. Then I took it for a ride and when I rev the car at 2.5 rpm it's shuts off. I drove it home below 2.5 rpm. Also I have a aftermarket air filter. Would this be Maf sensor going bad. Please help me out guys. I have 99067 miles on it.

thanks

When my maf was going bad, it did the same. It would fail on me, then I'd simply turn off the ignition and turn it back on and it would be fine for another few weeks.

I replace the MAF but now I am hearing a ticking sound like if the car is out of oil. I check the oil level and its fine. I hear it when the car is at idle and when I am driving its gets louder. I hear it at the back of the engine. The car have 99000 on it now.
