Hub replacement queston!!

hey all, i just purchased a 5th gen and the previous owner hit a curb. now the wheel has an extreme amount of play. when you move the wheel side to side, you can see he axle loosely moving as well. came to the conclusion that the bearing is really f**ked up.

ive read all the posts on the subject but havent gotten a straight answer

if i replace the entire hub assembly with bearing in it... do i still have to press out the bearing? or by replacing the entire hub, is it just bolt off and on?
thanks in advance

if you get the whole assy, then you do NOT have to press out the hib and bearing.

But when not just replace the bearing and hub?

If you dont have access to a shop press, why not remove the spindle and take it to a machine shop with the new hub and bearing?

should be around $20 to press out and in a new bearing and hub.

unless the spindle is bent ( which i doubt ) you can just replace the bearing and hub..

i did it myself on my own Max in 2010. I used an SKF bearing and reused the snap rings and the hubs

That's what I'm asking. I want to change the hub and bearing. So I will get a hub with bearing assembly. I found one on thepartsbin.com for around 70$. And I want to know if I will need to have anything pressed. Or just bolt on?

Yes, you will need to press the bearing and bearing in. The FSM is available for free online. I would reference it rather than asking an R&R question here and waiting for the response.

Like others have said, you will have to use a press to remove the old bearing out of the knuckle. And then press the new bearing in and then install the hub.

Or just take the spindle to a machine shop and have them do it

If you go with OEM parts, keep in mind that a wheel bearing is around $100 and a hub is $60. I am sure aftermarket prices are different and parts can be found much cheaper.

Or you could always pick up a used knuckle from the classifieds.

Given the circumstance. Do you guy think I should replace the hub as well. Or just the bearing?

With all the play that his hub has, theres a chance that the actual hubis shot as was mine. A local shop charged me 40 for pressing it in and a bearing was around that as well, but then i had to get a new hub on top of that. Used complete hub assemblies go for about 75 bucks and its far leas work, id say go with a used one, itll save you time and trouble... Also try this for used parts www.car-part.com
