6th gen transponder key on 5.5 gen?
Hi guys,
I just got a 03 Max SE 6sp. It came with only one key and one remote. I got another remote from ebay and I know that it is easy to program.
I also want another transponder key in case of loss of the original. I saw that there are a whole bunch of OE replacement keys with chips in them that are supposed to work. My question is if a 6th gen key can be programmed on 5.5 gen? They look better and cost the same so I would like to have that if possible. thanks

You may be pioneering new territory. There are 2 things that might prevent the 6th gen key from working:
1 - It may not fit in the lock.
2 - The frequency of the RFID chip may be different.
How would you like to get the key and try it and become the forum Expert?

I know my 4th gen uses 4th gen compatible fob and that's it...
your 5.5 likely has a different FCC ID than the 6th gen, so would not work.
Figure out the FCC ID on the 5.5 gen fob and the same on the 6th gen. If they match, you're good.

hahaha no worries.
So from what I can see the 5.5 gen and 6th gen keys look the same when it comes to the actual key part that needs to be cut. So now I will have to dig deeper and see about the transponder part.
5.5 gen key part number per courtesy parts is: H0564-A33B005 (H0564-A33B004 better looking one)
6th gen part number: H0564-A34005
Notice the same exact part number with the only difference in the chassis code.
I would like to know more. . .

I don't know if this helps at all, but the part numbers you posted, when I pulled them up; my 5.5 gen key does not look like the picture of the 5.5 on courtesy. My key looks like the 6th gen one from courtesy. Not sure about anyone else though.

Called Courtesy
So I called Courtesy and the guy said that if the part numbers would be compatible Nissan would list them all as applicable under the different model years.
I still have my doubts that it may work but I will have to fork out for a blank key and have it programmed somewhere. I hear that Home Depot can program transponder keys. Is that true?

No. Some Home Depots have allowed some little upstart franchise in their stores doing keys. This franchise is mostly in the northeast part of the country. They use a special kind of key that they can clone your existing key's RFID into. They cannot program a true Nissan key.
Find a local locksmith. Most of them do automobile keys. Two years ago I paid $40 but he's up to $60 now.

Update:
So it seems that we cannot use 6th gen transponder keys. Did lots of reading and talking go dealers and so far it seems it will not work. I am tempted to buy a 6th gen blank from ebay and take it to be programmed but I cannot afford a single dollar out of my budget right now. Maybe some day I will fork out and try it.
