Front bearing replacement (2000)
Hey guys,
So my wife's car needs new front bearings it sounds like a spaceship or something with all the humming. I have replaced the rears before but I just bought a hub/bearing assembly so it was really easy.
Is there something of the sort available for the front? I have access to a press so I don't mind pressing a new bearing into the old hub BUT I am fairly certain the hub is going to be shot... As far as I know they are the original bearings (135k miles).

Will definetly need a press to get them out and in. As far as the hub being damaged, you won't know till you take that bearing out. It's not a complicated job. I remember doing mine a few years back when I had the Maxima.

Honestly I would just buy a brand new wheel bearing and a hub. Spend the extra money now instead of having to wait to find out that you will need a new hub when you remove the old bearing.
Plus it will be a simpler job to replace both items at once. But you will need to press the hub and bearing out of a knuckle and that requires removal of the knuckle assembly from the car.

Well I have a press so its not an issue, I just don't want to get it all apart and realize I need a hub and be stuck without a car lol. Maybe I will err on the side of caution and just order a new hub while I am at it.
Has anyone used the Timken bearings? I am leaning towards OEM but they are $$$

Yeah I had that happen actually. I only bought a bearing and took it apart to realize that the hub had wear on it. Then i had to wait a couple of days before the hub arrived. Get both and install them IMO.
I had used OEM hub and bearing so I have no experience with aftermarket units.

may be we can get a mod to make this a sticky or something... I know it says 04 but the procedure is the same
I guess it depends on how easily you take the hub out you might me OK with just replacing the bearing pkrainert

I watched that video last night lol. I have a press so I won't risk damaging the bearing with that method but its good info for those without access to a press. My local machine shop is pretty cool with pressing stuff for a small fee so that may also be an option for the DIYer without a press.
