Hey guys, small issue that is annoying me. When I go over bumps I get annoying metal on metal rattles from the back of the car, but if I put my foot on the brake over bumps the rattles stop. There is no grinding and the rear rotors have even wear on them. Is it loose rear pads or something else? Maybe it needs brakes but I am just checking to see if its a common issue.
Nothing done, its just a stock daily driver. Its also got the front end clunks and only gets 15 MPG. I think its time to dump this heap...my 99 SE was WAAAY tighter and better on gas.

I relate, seriously. But I know its largely due to my lack of funds to maintain the car the way I want. I say you get under your and see if rust as broken anything. Shake stuff around. Then check brakes.
Also sounds like you need a tuneup.

i had the same problem all you have to do is tighten the back calipers thats what is rattaling in the back, but the front is probably the sway bar end links or tie rod check those out

There's a TSB out there for this issue, it involved installing a "spring retainer kit".
You might also try jacking up the car and physically trying to rattle your rear calipers. The brackets could be loose, or the pins (that the caliper slides on) could be worn out.

I had the same rear brake issue that you had. I took the brakes apart and re-greased everything not touching the rotor. The rattle went away. I anticipate having to re-grease in a few months again. We shall see.
