Hell son, you're just asking for the CL-S boys to come over and get involved with posts like that. Supercharged, I say its cake even for the VQ30...but CAI's, headers, y-pipe, etc...will be a good race.

That front end sure looks ugly with that lower grill opening, though. Even uglier that the Acura guys claim our Maxima's rear end is (Man, my grade school grammar teacher must be spinning in her grave with that last sentence!).

290 hp, huh? That must be with the DVD based NAV on full power!

We still got more torque and a bigger engine, that equals = more room for improvement..

They did, minor redesign... it all gained it 7mph for top speed...boosting it to 175mph.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It still only has 260HP. The fable 280HP and 290HP didn't show up. It's also only available on the CL, not the TL so if you want a 4 door (like I did) you're out of luck.Yo_its_ok seems to say that a supercharger on the 2k2 looks really easy. He seemed to say he'll have his done in 2 weeks. I wouldn't start surrendering yet.

I would say it will be just a matter of time till that 6 spd finds a home in the TL-S as well, will make things more interesting for sure.

 

Oh i love it. I think it looks like a little 360 modena (except much less sexy cause it isn't italian)

 

The Acuras still weigh considerably more than the Maxima.

I am kind of glad they will release the 6 speed - at least it will have a sporting chance to the 2K2 Maxima. It's not fun to absolutely cream the competition every time, it gets old after a while.

 

If I want a two door I would go for the new Z 6spd. There will be tons of aftermarket for it and will be true performance rather than a CL-S.

Four door wise unless the TL-S will come in a 6spd I would say the 6spd Max is the best value. Or even the Auto Max is the way to go since there is money saved for mods which both cars need.

I actually would like to see CLs getting 290 hps, cuz I think its a great car, and I think acura by going with more horsepower would only make other car makers want to compete more, and we as the consumers get the benefits

I like the CLS more than the TLS. Find that the bubble butts is better than flat butts. I do prefer 4 doors however.

The $4000Cdn difference obviously was an issue when deciding what to buy. The reliability issues were also. If they can make a good transmission, and price stays the same, a 6 speed CLS with or without more hp would be tempting. The eight's Hondas all have nice manual tranmissions, and handled well.

 

Its always "just a matter of time" before Acura catches up to Nissan on these things. Its not as if Nissan will just wait...that "matter of time" will see Nissan releasing the G35, a 6th gen Maxima...then it will be, once again, "just a matter of time" before Acura figures out what to do.

Thats great for all 2k2 owners! I personally have a 2k1 AE SCed. But as soon as im done with it I'll be happy. Plan on port and polish, bore out engine, custom forged pistons & rods and some other knick knacks Hopefully all should be done before 2k3.

 

I've got an AE myself, but I think if you pushed all of Kev's mods on a manual, you should be sitting at about 300fwhp...you've still got a chance. The VQ30 makes for a race with the Auto CL-S, so pump both of them up and you've still got a race.

 

& don't forget the turbo system thats floating around that is still in "development" for the max.

 

I got an AE 2 Im about 250fwhp now but I spoke to my tech and when I dynoed my fuel got real rich on the top end. He said that if we could lean it out a bit I should push about another 20fwhp. Plus Im installing a 2 size smaller pulley for an extra 20fwhp. So it looks like i might be a little short of the big 300 but im pretty happy on how its running.

 

Do you have the 3" y-pipe? The HKS or Greddy exhaust? Full catback? Have you built a custom CAI for the SC or just the "out of the box" from Stillen? You can do it...break the 300fwhp that is.

Here's a cosmetic question. You have the Phillips HID kit I assume? If you were back at that decision and had the 2K2 assembly to consider, which would you choose? I'm wrestling with this one because I like the bronzed frames on the AE assembly, but I want to do a HID upgrade.

 

2k2 + SC = a$$ woopin' on the CL boys. Now Hogan just needs to get his together quickly.

I thought about the same thing for a while and both look nice. The only thing is you are going to see a lot more 2k2 headlights than 2k1 AE headlights. Personally I like originality. But the choice is yours. And about the mods I have y-pipe, high flow cat, and HKS rear section. No cai yet. And thinking of custom B-pipe.

 

wonder how much M/T TL-S will cost. May cost less than fully loaded 2k2 SE with a S/C put on it.

 

Yeah and it'll be a lot slower and have less HP and torque. What's your point? Y2kevSE is pushing nearly 380HP at the crank on his SC'd 3.0VQ. Same mods on a 2k2 should give about 415HP. Couple that with a 6 speed manual and you have one heck of a fast car. Who cares if a 6sp TL-S costs a little less than a 2k2 SE w/ SC. The 6 speed TL-S about 155HP short of the SC'd 2k2 SE. I'd say you're getting something for the extra money.

Well, at least the G35 is coming out for Infiniti so the Acura guys will finally be able to play with our luxury division instead of the our plain old Nissans

 

SteveChicagoSC in his 4th gen AUTO dynoed at 324 fwhp....that's about 415 at the crank....and that's a fourth gen...

 

some of us plain old Nissans are already pretty having a good time with the Acura folks, imagine Infiniti's luxury division(G35) when they hit the streets....
