I know Studebaker used Paxton centrifugal superchargers on a few of their cars, but I think Cord did more than that, and the shapes of the body look more Cord than Studebaker, so my guess is Cord.

Just the lip and it was 250. Friend of mine does body work so he did the entire front end. New bumper and fogs.

Aerodynamics comes into play ~50MPH. The stock front valance is shaped, like the leading edge of an aircraft wing. Sending lots of air under the front of the car = lift. Without the lip, I could feel it starting to lift at 65MPH & over. With the lip changing the airflow & 'spoiling' the lift, the car feels just as stable at speeds that cannot be spoken as at 30MPH.

Good guess, but not Cord or Studebaker. This car's unique blower was integral with the engine crankshaft. Not gear or pulley driven & reputedly the blower/engine lasted >100K miles!

ok, I'm looking at these things, I see "clamp-on" versions as well, should I just stay the hell away from those? Also, what's the diameter of the stock tailpipe I'd be attaching it to?

The only thing I don't like about my new tips is how they disappear when looking straight at them from the rear. Other than that, they look fantastic, and perfectly accent the lines of the rear bumper of the G. Where you see 60's muscle car retro, I see win. Either way, it's still 10x better than the OEM crap. Those Infiniti tips were pure trash.

With hindsight, though? Yes, I could have spent more money on these double-walled tips (@$70 each). However, there's no guarantee they could be cut to length without structural compromise because of the double-wall. You see what I'm talking about?

The clamp-ons aren't going to give you the flexibility to align the tip where you want it, whereas a good welder will do up the job perfectly. Yes, stay away from clamp-ons. Of course, that means finding a decent mechanic with welding skills, and paying for the work.

As long as your new tip is wider than the exhaust pipe, you're good. My guess is your OEM pipe is 2". But why are you asking me what your tailpipe diameter is? It's your car.

makes sense. I was just thinking that you knew it offhand since you posted one, wasn't aware that you posted one just to get the look, and not the actual tip, that's all.

And when I get home I can easily take a ruler to the tailpipe and take a look. But I think I may do the polishing with glass cleaner you mentioned in the interim.

In that case, I wouldn't even do 10" wide. Go with a 9.5" at the most and keep the offset around +30. So you still have some sort of lip on the rim.

All the glass cleaner does is clean off dirt... the polish comes from 0000 steel wool, and then a good metal polish compound. Do that once or twice a year on any set of SS tips, and they'll look great for years.

You should see the OEM tip on my wife's Honda CR-V. It's 5 years old, but looks brand new. (She doesn't notice this stuff, but I do.)

I've used 0000 steel wool on stainess/chrome for years. Works great.

Here it is on a white TL. Not bad at all.

Geezus, cjandura. These rims are $800 to $900 each.
