I don't know why everyone's got wood over the Toyota 2JZ engine. It's basically the same old technology as the Nissan RB30DE motor. Sure, it make tons of HP overboosted, but they're notorious oil burners(1qt/1k), turbos have head gasket issues & belt driven cams are a fail<IMO>. My experience of a belt driven DOHC Toyota(2VZFE) engine jumping time & being ruined because of a water pump failure(w/0 warning) makes me glad to have a VQ under my hood.

Well said. The JZ engines are really, all toyota has though for performance, and that's a big part of the popularity I think.

You forgot they're also brutal on fuel.

I've ridden in a heavily modded MKIV Supra Turbo & it's the fastest thing I've ever been in. I've got a Toyotaphile friend w/3 MKIII Supras, 1 (HKS)modded turbo, 1 stock turbo & 1 NA beater. They all burn oil & had head gaskets replaced. As far as gas I don't really know for sure. Driving them, I concur w/'Roc' they feel heavy. My Maxima feels sporty by comparison! The VQ engine design is way ahead of Totota's. If you think about it, the VQ design is much like a racing motor tamed for street use. All Aluminum open deck block, chain driven cams/water-pump, etc...etc. There's a reason VQ's win so many best engine awards since it's 1994 introduction & it's still being used as Nissan's premier V6 power-plant today, almost 20yrs. later! Nuff said?

i only like the Twin cams because i grew up on them and it just astounds me what people do to them now.they were far from reliable engine wise every winter i could predict when the timing belt was going to snap me and my grandfather got so good at rebuilding them engines it was a shame.

I don't understand the recent popularity in an 80's family grocery getter that was never cool, and still isn't. Perhaps it's that other rwd Toyota platforms are too costly and something cheap in a Toyota platform was needed to keep the 2JZ swaps going. Cressida's can be found for cheap, if you can find one that hasn't rusted away into oblivion. Do the motor swap, and you have a cheap Rwd turbo car that can be thrown together.

How come you don't have time to pop the hood of that boosted Civic you claim to have and take pictures of it parked next to your Maxima?

It's the packie. I was pretty sure the late TK helped to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays after noon? Maybe that was just on holidays? After all, it was probably very difficult to have a Kennedy family holiday in Hyannis sober.

Shop on Saturday, no problem. Sunday is The Lord's day of rest. I subscribe to that Godly rule. Cocktails/Relaxation is a good preparation for work on Monday. God fearing Yankee ingenuity at it's best!

I'm guessing that's funny if I had any idea what these references were. Honestly, sometimes you babble on in a way that makes Hustler's posts sensible in comparison. Although the pretty obvious difference is that he's just being himself, whereas you're clearly trying too hard. And that's OK, cj. I mean, this thread seems to be a blog outlet for you, with a dozen registered listeners to your tweets on food and Craigslist findings. So in that context (of feeling like you have an audience), you're experimenting with various personae, trying to find your voice.

All I'm saying is one of your voices is a babbling idiot. No offense to you personally.
