I'm taking the day off as chaperone at the local amusement park for my kid's school picnic. I'd invite some of you guys to attend, but short notice and all.
It's a freaking beautiful day, too. If you're not swamped with work, or not too busy looking for work (or not busy not looking for work), you should get out and enjoy it. Days like this are rare. At least in Upstate NY they are.

Hired a guy to fix my alternator, turned out it wasn't that, took my ECM and my money and never came back. New ones are pricing around $950, used ones $465, anybody know of any other places to find them complete?

Reeeeeeeeeeally close to getting the GoPro Hero 2 Motorsports edition to start shooting some BA vids on mountain roads and such. It has a 11mp cabable still shot camera too which is nice, the only thing holding me back is the fact it has no zoom. It is simply 170d wide-angle lens. It also has a really BA mic and the option to put on an external 3.5mm professional style mic which would be great to capture the exhaust. Would look similar to an Imax shot. Whacha'll think? this or a camera?

yea thats what i was telling him also... if he wanted some kind of monster build then sure do that built motor, but for the 350rwhp goal that he has i think his motor is capable of being reliable with that kind of power... my vote was just use that $2600 to boost his current motor as for 350rwhp thats fine
A stock block vq35 can handle low boost without any issues. However once the torque numbers begin to climb, that is when the issue arrises of how long the motor will last. The rods are the weakest point in the vq35.
A built motor even with a mild build is a good idea. However I personally did not see the point of it. Reason being is if I blow a stock vq35, I can get another one very easily and just swap it in. If I blow a vq35 that was built, well there goes money down the drain. And there have been plenty of people on my350z that have blown built vq35 motors.
A built motor sounds like a great idea if you are after power and dyno numbers. But having a street car with 400whp is plenty enough to have fun and still be plenty quick.

-- current engine has weak rear cylinder compression. Knowing these motors likely bad rings. Leakdown confirms suspicions.
-- Now have in my head that this engine will likely need rebuild/replace at some point in the car's life. As I plan to hold onto this car for a good time to come. Hence the money being invested.
-- Will be Supercharging the car
-- So the question becomes, boost this one and when it is no good, be out of a car, pay for a new engine ($1000-1500 minimum, maybe more becuase I'll prolly be in a rush to get it in), and still only have a used engine being boosted
-- Ding ding buy another engine and build it/buy a built one and swap it in when the time comes.
So I don't know. Maybe I should just stop thinking engine for now and get the supercharger stuff first? Then see how it plays out on the car and if it's rough I'll start looking for an engine?
I just doubt I'll ever find a deal like this again. Also, it seems my co-worker will be doing Top fuel dragsters in Flordia very soon, and could probably pick this engien up for me. Hence, price would only be around $1900.... maybe $2100 once I pay a few bucks around to say thank yous.

I dont think I want to know why it doesnt.
Thought you already had one?
I know right? Ghay rev-up with fartcan altezzas and everything. And I read that if he drives more than 15 minutes he has to stop and fill the tires
