5th gen Off Topic Thread (Official Ghustle thread v1)
I've a friend with the Jetta TDI 6MT. It's a very well constructed car, with excellent attention to detail. The drive can be rewarding and responsive, but you have to really get on the car to enjoy it. There is literally ZERO throttle response, so be forewarned.
40+ mpg in a fun-2-drive, practical car... that's pretty impressive, too.
However, I wouldn't own one. If I were to get a VW, it would be the CC 2.0T with the dual-clutch automatic (yes, I know... AT).

DC-AT's shift like bawssesss, another car I'm in love with has it (Hyundai Veloster) and it didn't feel so bad driving, still lacking compared to a MT but I wouldn't hate on it as hard as other Autos.
VW's autos have been very good in the past to me, the TQ converter stays engaged (or feels that way) so it feels like you're driving a manual and not a slushbox.
But I would never own an Auto if I had the choice.

Oh hell yeah, I should have known though, the last few Maxima-only meets I had set up were all fail, I just figured I wouldn't get the same excuses as I have been getting for all the other meets on why ppl didn't show up because it was "Maxus."
Should have known
I'm done planning Maxima meets in Houston for good. Houston-Nissans is only falling off because of my focus on Maxus, but I should have just incorporated the two, but fck it, I have A LOT of stuff to still give out, too bad it won't be for Maxima owners any more, I'll just recycle everything from Maxus (Except maybe the NWP stuff... I'm not so sure on that Aaron has pretty specific applications on his products, I'll have to contact him on what to do w/ the NWP goods). In the end it will be the Maxima community's loss, not mine.
OAN....
328/325 orrrr Jetta TDI? Or another fun/reliable/modable car for under 3k?

but reliable....and jetta?!?!?!??! yea that shouldnt be in the same category. reliable, hence why i went w/ my integra. i love teh look of the old school jettas/vw, but i'd never get one, they are known for electrical issues
Was behind a red Jetta on my way into work this morning...had one of those "if you gonna ride my ***, at least pull my hair" licence plate covers...I go to pass her and take a look-see, it's some dude. FFS that screwed up my morning. Damn Jettas are chick cars...I expect a chick to drive that one especially.
Yeah, Rochester, I thought you had some fancy DSLR camera that you did all your pics with...
Hustle - don't forget, Galactica is still wanting to buy your AE lip when and if you get around to it...
Sucks about maxus...our meet had 9 maxes, 3 from other states (2 from Oregon, one from Idaho). Chill and fun it was.

Trust me... Mine wouldn't be confused w/ a chick car... Just like the 325i vert I was looking at the other day... There are ways around it
TDI bruh. Diesels last waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than Gasoline engines, there's a reason why the other half of the world uses it more than Gasoline, and it's not because Diesel is cheap either.
I would consider owning a Honda but they get stolen too much!!!

1st. The port matching with the head. That's self explanatory really and since you're already ported, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. The one down here was already ported pretty well and we were able to just slap it on.
2nd. Is the rear valve cover clearance. You can use a 3.5 cover but you will battle a few oil leaks. Your best bet is to use your dek valve cover and shave it down flat then use 3.5 coil packs because the "stem" is shorter to compensate for the shaving.
Bishazz... Lol.
i dont know about the diesels and electrical problems, but seeing diesel prices...errrrrrrrr
it's a nice car...but they should have kept it Toyota and brought back the Celica name. Scion is toyota's young and cheap division. I wish the Subaru version came with the AWD...that could be nice.
lol... i dont care if it has a toyota badge or its name... long as its affordable lol
My friend just got one. Car is small as HELLLLLLLLLLLL, I feel like my Maxima would eat it for brunch
That's cause your cheap bishazz is paying for regular I've been buying premium for the last few years so I don't see a diff in gas prices, just a dramatic increase gas mileage (25 to 40).

Subaru has two main cars...the Impreza and the Legacy.
Impreza is what the WRX is, and the Legacy is the "nicer" car. The Outback, for example, came as both an "Impreza outback" (otherwise known as Outback sport) and "legacy outback". Legacy is larger and more comfortable...while Impreza is smaller and sportier.

Looks just like the Impreza

Me too. I was looking at the Legacy sedans originally when I was looking to get rid of my Grand Am. Ended up realizing I couldn't afford a 05 or 06 like I wanted...that's when I bought the max.
Squeaker's family is a Subaru family. They've had Legacy wagons and Outbacks for their last 5 vehicles. Living in Idaho, can't beat the AWD. Father in law is actually going to be buying my mother in law a 2012 Outback soon.

really.... damn, i thought they were more WRX like (which is still respectable)
Are the AWD also???
exactly... if its an automobile i care...

The STI's full name is the "Subaru Impreza WRX STI"
With the exception of the BRZ... ...if it's a Subaru, it's AWD

And yeah, I get that we have different priorities.
Fair enough.
But if we measure cars 1/4 mile at a time, then why drive a Maxima?
yeppers. And the STI is a WRX, it's just another trim level, basically.

**meh. Nothing special there at all.
I wanted one of these, I did a lot of research, I also know a couple VW guys. I drove stock ones, modded ones, etc. I really really wanted to like it, but it just never did a lot for me.
There's a lot to like, but similar to the maxima, this car always feels soft/sloppy. Even on coils, etc, it's sloppy.
That's how they designed it though, and just like the maxima I'm sure enough steering modifications and suspension mods, it COULD be made better, but that's a crapload of work. And they're TINY inside, mainly the back seat. But SMALL dude.
There's a lot of big PROS for TDI's. A lot of cons though also.
You know the Pros I think so here's some major cons:
- VERY expensive to fix
- VERY expensive to buy
- Long engine life still = old chassis, and these cars are notorious for suspension problems.
- Harder/more specialized to work on
Not TDI specific, just Jetta/VW specific:
- Hard as heck to work on
- Expensive to work on (need to re-tool, specialized tools needed everywhere)
- Suspension problems lead to HUGE $$$ in repairs, and a fairly extensive amount of time to fix/replace stuff due to design.

how so?

^^ general wrx issues
The oil-feed line for the turbo gets farked up easily at times, replacement of the oil feed line is required, judging from a quick read of things turbo-related. Just go to google for "wrx turbo oil failure" and reall all the crap that pops up...

^^ legacy specific, but same as impreza/wrx/sti

I just may end up getting a G35/350z
Absolutely nothing happened.

german cars...i cant see without purchasing brand new..it's like their maintenance are just outrageous. for the price you'd expect them to have toyota/honda type reliability. hence why i'll own a lexus before any other luxury line...unless some magical way i become bill gates rich
