3rd gear crunch
#41
I have the redline shockproof in my trans, previous owner had it put in when shop did the clutch. I was confused when I first seen it since it's a minty color. Maybe you should try it, lots have had good results with it. I still crunch sometimes though but for a 20 year old trans and one thats known for crunching in almost every gear, its pretty damn guuuddd.

It's not the world's greatest stuff though, affordable and it's not bad.
That's what my car is doing, I will probably end up trying the MT-85 when I re-do the seals (so it won't leak out) whenever I buy a LWFW.

yea i suspect there is some kinda leak in mines... i wont do a 6mt for multiple reasons...
Clutches n Flywheels are too expensive, i would at least need an LSD because that what i have now thats pretty pricey n like me n you txted the other day, the axles are obsolete

could that gear crunch be something else caused by the mounts not holding the engine proper during shift movement? really your torque mounts arnt doing anything right now because there not attached to the car so i know you have alot of movement

I have an aluminum rear, new transmission and tq mount and poly filled front mount.....
You would need some radical engine movement on a 5mt to cause a wacky angle or half shift to cause a grind while putting it into gear.

o.k...

3/4 Poly mounts. visibly intact tranny mount. My only option is to replace the tranny mount hoping to reduce that woble. You drove my car too with and felt it.
I'm really thinking about going back to Redline oil, I felt it was smoother than my current AMSOIL setup.
edit: heading to Houston late night wednesday. meetup for food?

The locals here in MD go with penzoil syncromesh, they said the trans feel notchy in the cold with redline but with syncromesh the shifts are noticeably smoother all year round..... I believe that's what all the 5.5's here use.... One still on his original transr n beats on it weekly

My car just needs oil, gear oil leak steady keeps the oil level low
I'll fix it whenever I get me hands on a LWFW.

Chrisman get off of your phone
I did some googling, it's a GL4 80W, winning so far...
But I like le price, I can't go wrong there. Perfect white car territory, I guess I'm going full Penzoil in that car now
(Penzoil Platinum is the next oil change).

Because people who actually race their cars usually have a good idea of what to use when it comes to stuff like that. They use all different kinds of fluids through their engines and transmissions. And they abuse their cars too, so if it works well for them, then chances are it will work brilliantly for those of us who don't run our cars at the track.
Personally, I used GM Syncromesh in a few track cars and was very pleased. I've used Redline too, and I can't really make a difference between the two. This is, of course, personal preference.
