I got my tail lights painted....pics inside

I got my tail lights painted body color back last night. I put them on this morning and took some pics. The car was VERY dirty, so I had to wash it after the install was complete. It was pretty easy to do. They turned out awesome, even better in person. Here are some pics, click on the link for the rest of them.

I think it looks pretty good. I don't think it would work for all colors, but works with the grey.

Greg,

AWESOME!!!

Now question I have is how in the world did you mask off the center and the rever light circles in a nice and perfect circle? Or does it only look like from far distances?

Only reason I ask is because you might know that I blacked out my tailights (SE) and was just thinking how hard it is to sit there and mask off the tailight and reverse light.

Two words...body shop . We know a guy that owns a body shop, and he painted them for me. I don't know how in the world I would have masked off the two circles perfectly like he did. I would have been there for hours just trying to get it right. So I said screw it, I will just take them to this guy we know and he did an awesome job.

Looks really good. I agree that it might not look that good on all colors, but on yours it gives a nice 'finished' touch. Good job !!

Nice job Greg! I think it looks sweet. I'd like to see what lighter colors would look like. Send that picture to Nissan to show them how it SHOULD have been done!

i think if someone here with a Black max did it, it would look like the tails are molded into the bodyline...i think that's phat!

Actually it looks really good on a white Maxima. I was at my local Nissan service station, and on the lift there was a white 00-01 with the same painted tail lights I have. (That's where I origianlly got the idea from. It looks real good in person). Try and get someone to photoshop it for you. Or just buy some GXE/GLE tails and do what I did, just in case you don't like it.

Looks great!

What type of painting process was used? Is there anyway they can melt the plastic with the painting process? I talked to one body shop and they would not do it for me. They said I had to deal with a shop that does custom work?

I don't know how they did it. They might have sanded the area first then primer, then the color coat and a clear coat. This guy installs body kits there too, so I guess you can say he does "custom" work.

I've seen it on a Pearl White Maxima, he's not on the board though. It looked very good to me, much better than the GXE/GLE lights. I would choose it over the SE lights also, but that's a lot closer.

When you get a chance and speak with him again can you ask him the basic process he used?

Looks great!

I have been wanting to do this to my pearl max for a while. I am planning on making the lights perfectly round. For some reason I hate how our tailights look like a vw bug! I also want to make the turn signal red like the brake light....I know yoitsok did this with some spray and it looked almost the same as the brake light.
