Fuel pump replacement: Safe practices

What's up guys?

I need to change the pump on my 03 but, its rather hot outside and, the tank is pretty full of gas.

I've been following the tutorial here:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...up-thread.html
And, it seems that I will have to leave the tank uncovered for the time the pump assembly is out of the car. I'm worries about vapor buildup. I've planned on placing a box fan to the left of the car and, I'm not going to start the job until it cools down (its about 90 here in Michigan). Are there any other precautions I should take into consideration before starting this job?

Thanks.

No box fan. Just cover the hole with plastic wrap. Make sure you disco your battery. You could also just get a $7 hose kit and suck the gas out into a gas can.

Don't do it until you are least 3/4 empty (meaning 1/4 tank or less). Bleed off pressure before you start. Have rags handy and just place a towel or something over the opening while its out (once you're there it only takes 5-10 minutes to get new pump in).

Make sure you install a new filter at the same time and a strainer. Do it with windows open in car and then leave them open after you're done - go for drive with them down and you won't even notice you did any work after a few miles.

Ok. I'll drain the tank completely. Should I drain it through the hole where the pump was installed or, can I go through the filler neck?

Agreed. Ever look at one of those closely in a dark room?

LOTS of little tiny sparks going on in that motor!

There are no brushes in a box fan motor, only coils.
