What are these things? [Pics]

Today I am cleaning the cabin air filters and checking the tweeters (because I am replacing them soon) and I noticed these little brown pellets were stuck in the filter and jammed into the pillar. Anyone know what these things are?

Yeah that's some kind of small animal pet food. How in the hell would something like that get in there?

My question exactly. I checked the other pillar by the driver's side and there were none. I got the car in 2010 from some old lady. She didn't have any pets so idk how this could've happened. It's been in and out of repair shops quite frequently but this could've happened years ago. I do have pets, I don't get this type of food for them and they're never around the car.

I used a nozzle on my vaccume and I think I counted around 40 of these things coming out.

You storing kibble and bits inside the pillars and air intake tubbing give a whole new meaning to having squirrels running on belts to make the car go faster.

Seriously it looks like it could be some kind of seed ... what kind of trees to you have near where the car parks?

I keep my car in a covered parking spot (in my avatar) but there are a few trees around. I don't know what kind they are, but they're very tall. I haven't seen these kinds of seeds, though.
