P0340 & P1800
P0340 & P1800
After a few days of unpredictable shutoffs and poor performance in my 2003 SE, I read the CEL codes and got P0340 and P1800. After some research on Maxima.org I replaced the rear bank CPS and immediately the shutoffs stopped but the CEL stayed on.
I've disconnected the battery and gone through the reset process but after 200+ miles I still can't get the CEL to shut off. I went back to Auto Zone yesterday to get the codes read and the same two codes are showing.
I need to get that CEL off soon to get my tags renewed by the end of the month.
I have four questions.
1) Do the codes remain in the computer until it is reset and could that be the reason why I still have the CEL on? In other words, nothing is broken it just needs to be reset.
2) (maybe a dumb question) Is the reset process so precise that I'm not performing it properly and if so what's the trick to doing it right?
3) What are the most common malfunctions/repairs needed to fix the P1800 code?
4) My friend suggested replacing both CPS and the crankshaft position sensor all at the same time. Is he right?
Thanks for all of your help your posts have already provided.
Here is what I did for the reset -
1. Turn ignition switch on and wait about 3 seconds.
Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking. (here is where i think you can get a code from this.)
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
