Problems Fixed

Recently my 4-spd to 6-spd convert Max had been running abnormally. I noticed the problem when my safc was displaying erratic throttle position. At first I thought it would be a TPS or an MAF issue. However no error codes were given for either parts. For a peace of mind, I switched the TPS with one from a working max but no changes in the safc readings led me to keep mine. The readings somehow became normal and the car ran fine for about a week, so I didn't pay any more attention to the problem. After a while, the throttle position problem reappeared along with others. The additions were combinations of erratic start and idle, high rpm, the car stalling after shifting from gear to neutral, and the car accelerating while dramatically jerking back and forth as if fuel was being cut off and on at certain intervals. This was true in gear and in neutral. After taking it to a shop and being told of a myriad of possibilities, I decided to go under the hood. My friend suggested a flywheel problem since there was a rattling sound coming from the transmission. Even though I initially rebuked his idea, the fact that the flywheel had about 50k miles led me to do a flywheel and clutch job. The night of the job, the car ran better than ever. With some sort of relief, I took it home. The morning after, I took it to work and it ran beautifully. On the drive back however, the erratic start and the accelerating problem reappeared. Once again I went under the hood, to do wire checks. I happen to start at the MAF, and I saw that the yellow wire to the sensor had been gnawed at and was discreetly disconnected. I went to the local autozone, got myself some electrical wire and some heat-shrink and reconnected the wire. The car started normally and idle was on point. Also drove it around without any acceleration problems. The throttle position was +.5 but with an ecu reset, this problem was solved. The car has been running strong for the past week and hopefully, for weeks to follow.

Glad to hear, and strange it wasn't giving any error codes, and strange that the throttle position voltage was freaking out.

When my old MAF died, my SAFC would read 0.0v/% when it would act that way, even when I was on the pedal and the throttle was open, it just wasn't registering via MAF v.

I'm guessing the absence of the codes were due simply to a faulty connection and not a complete failure of the sensor.
