Difference between 5th gen ang 5.5?

Hey im considering getting a 5th gen and wanted some input on if there is a difference between 5 and 5.5 gen besides the bumpers. Performance difference between the 5 speed and 6 speed tranny?

Depends what you look for. I had 00 before. Now I have 01 and 02. I personally like the vq35 with 6 speed. Different people will tell you different opinions.

Nope, the front bumper is the only difference

You've been a member here for 2 years and you don't know the differences?? You're not going to get much sympathy here, bud. I will say this: There are LOTS of differences, nevermind the fact they look similar...

5.5 has the engine delete mod, for zero emissions.

the 5th gen has more power over the 5.5, the 5.5 is slower since the auto has mroe gears to shift through in the 5.5. Also, the 5.5 is heavier so that makes it slower as well.

Also, the 5.5 gen has more bulbs up front, which puts a larger load on the alternator. As a consequence, the alternators on the 5.5 are not only pricier, they wear out faster.

On a serious note one thing I always disliked was the fact that the 5.5 gen has glass foglights as opposed to plastic ...(which seriously annoys me lol, too easy to break)

Just in case you don't search here is the short spoon feed version:

02 03 "Improvements:

Exterior
Xenon Headlights
Altezza Taillights
More Plush leather seats
Front bumper redesign (Not really an improvement to me but to some it is)
Side sill runners (spoilers)

Interior
Soft touch open cup holder and sunglass holder
Gated Auto shifter
Different manual shifter bezel
BOSE 6CD Changers on Models equipped with BOSE system
Available Nav system

Perfromance
3.5 Liter Engine (255hp @6400 rpm / 246Tq @ 4400 rpm) As opposed to 5th Gens 3.0 (222hp @ 6400 rpm / 217Tq @ 4000 rpm)
Variable Valve timing on intake side I believe
Drive by Wire Throttle
6 speed manual available

I'm sure there is more but guess what I aint telling ya.

Everything is better about the 5.5 except the fact that some of them (99.9%) burn oil.

If you don't plan on modding for performance, get a 5th gen. I trust that motor more for some reason

If you are debating 5th gen 5speed or 5.5gen 6speed. Hands down no question the winner will be the 5.5gen ALL THE TIME in EVERY instance!! The 5.5gen has alot more TQ and HP and better gearing! dont believe me...look on youtube 5thgen 3.0L Maximas 1/4 mile and 5.5gen 3.5L Maxima 1/4 miles...STOCK.

The 5.5 gen is way faster then the 5th gen, the only real added weight difference is motor, and it pulls way harder. please learn what you're talking about, and auto 2000-01 vs auto 2002-2003, they both have 4 speeds.... so same amount of gears, except ones power more then exceeds the other, meaning the 5.5 will kill a 5th gen
