Engine revs REAL high at startup
Hey all,
I've got a 2001 I30.
I've noticed that right after I start the engine (especially when cold,) the engine will rev to 3-4000rpm for a brief second as soon as the engine starts.
This CANNOT be good for the engine -- a half-throttle blast before oil pressure is built up on a cold engine?
Is this normal, and if not, how do I get this under control?
I should add that I did try to search for this before posting, but couldn't find anything relevant withe the search terms I chose, and I wasn't exactly sure how to phrase it.

you mean as soon as you turn the key and the car starts it revs up to 3-4k for a split second and them back to 1.2k(maybe higher) or so if its cold? Dude that is normal. I haven't started a car that did not do that at startup.
As long as it immediately goes down after startup your fine.

different makes will rev differently at start up but the maxima is a high rev'er upon start up(especially cold). It doesn't go as high when the car is at operating temp and started.
