2002 Maxima Engine Tick
Ladys, Gentlemen...
Just a question question if you will. Please take it easy on me as this is my first posting. I just purchased a 02 Maxima with a engine tick. It sounds like a lifter has collapsed, but reading here, I see that they have a solid lifter. The car has 186k, the noise is constant and changes tune with engine speed. As the rpm goes up, the noise gets faster. The noise starts right off the bat when the car is started and doesn't stop until the car is cut off. The noise sounds like it's coming from the middle of the rear bank. I've used the screw driver to try to pin point the ticking by placing it on the injector and fuel dampers. To my surprise, there's no ticking coming from either component. So, with that being said, any simple suggestions that I can check or start pulling it apart checking valve clearance? I've included a video for your viewing and listening pleasures. Any help would be truely appreciated..
Oh, oil is full and clean..

Hey guys, me again...So I tried the CD-2 with no resolve to my engine tick. I ran that for 300(+-) a few miles. I decided to take off the rear valve cover to check valve clearance this weekend on the rear bank. All was picture perfect with the exception of the #5 exhaust clearance. This guy was about .030 or so that I'm going to guess. My feelers only went up to .024 so I'm just guessing. I started to take feelers apart to get a more accurate picture but this was good enough for me.
So, with that being said I thought I had a option. I've read in a few places that the shim could be changed. NOT! This isn't the case as the whole bucket will need to be replaced. Is there any secrets to changing this besides pulling the front cover, then the camshaft? I would say no, but coming to the gurus for expert advice.
Thanks
Jeff

Its driving me nutz as well. Were you able to find a solution to this problem? I read on your youtube video, someone said that it would cost 2k to fix it. I hope this is not the case. I have poured mystery oil and have been running it for the past 300 miles and nothing... Let me bro. THanks
