clutch problem but still driveable !

yesterday on my way to work my clutch pedal lost pressure and the pedal got stuck to the floor, so i pulled over. i pulled the pedal up and pumped it slowly and the pressure came back but i hear a squeeching sound kinda like a slipping belt. it also makes the rpms drop when i push the clutch down and im not in gear, it actually stauled the engine once and i wasnt even in gear. i can shift into 1st at a stop fine but any kind of clutch releasing either from a stop or while driving is rough. theres no slippage either.

does this sound like a pressure plate issue?

i was also wondering on the reliability of the duall mass flywheel. i dont plan on doing any engine mods to this car so im planning to just go with a regular replacement clutch.

its an 02 maxima with 171,000 miles , ive only had it for about 4 weeks. great car but i was hoping i would go a few months before needing any big repairs, especially since i still need ot put the motor back in my CRX...

check to see if there is any fluid in the clutch system... possible leak on the one of the connection points of the system. it happened to me as well, I lost all pressure in the clutch due to a leak...

My clutch line going into the master cylinder had a leak. It got some air in the line and that's what happened to me. Pedal to the floor. Bought a new hose, had a friend help me bleed all the air out of the line, taking about 2 painstaking hours to do it, but it's been good ever since.

yep... seems like with the years those hoses get old and leak.
What I did is pretty simple and took me about 20 min start to finish... to avoid the entire fiasco with the multiple lines and the useless clutch dampening system I ran to auto zone picked up a 5ft brake like and an adapter. One end of the line bolts directly to the master cylinder and other end to the adapter and then to slave cylinder... bleeding is a joke, took me less that 30 seconds to bleed the system myself with the "one man bleeding bottle". Now I have a single line running from the master to the slave and everything for less than $10... simple, cheap and reliable. I know there is the option to spend $40+ on a flexible one piece line but hey my method has been working now for 2+ years and more then 20K...

did you guys read the entire post? the pressure came back once i pulled the pedal back up and pumped it. there's something mechanicaly wrong in the clutch assembly. I'm guessing throw out bearing or pressure plate....

Same thing happened to me. It actually happened a few times. Pedal would drop, I'd pick it back up, pump a few times and be on my way. Ended up that I had a bad clutch master cylinder. Its only going to get worse, and I doubt its a pressure plate or throwout bearing issue.

The same thing happens to me about once a month for the last 4 months or so. Only diffeence is when I push in the clutch in neutral my rpms go up instead of down.

I wish it was just the master cylinder. the clutch is chirping real bad and feels rough when realesing the pedal. the pressure is fine. feels like the throwout Bearing is pushing real hard against the preasureplate making the engine want to stall.....

actually, now that you mention it, my clutch is making a chirping type sound for the last 2 inches or so when I release it. I hope it is nothing to bad!!

If you needed to pump it to bring back pressure, it's a hydraulic issue. Look at your fluid level.

Yep. Throwout bearing, clutch is toast. Just happened w/my 00. I'm pretty sure your 02 flywheel is dual-mass.

as of the 1st its not driveable anymore. makes the worst noise and it wont go into gear at all. the fork isnt even pressing against the slave cylinder anymore...

I have a similar issue although I don't have any squealing or raising or lowering of engine rpm. My clutch simply does not disengage completely when I press in the clutch pedal. This makes it incredibly difficult to shift gears, although once the car is moving it becomes slightly easier. It's as if the 3rd gear crunch has affected all of my gears. I have clutch pedal pressure so I don't suspect the slave cylinder. I also have a large amount of flywheel chatter(aluminum flywheel), although I believe it is unrelated. Please help
