Only Front or Four Wheel Alignment?

A few months ago I took my I30 (same as a 5G Maxima) for service at the dealer. When I got the car back, the tech said that in the multi point inspection he said the alignment looked like it could be off and suggested that I do a front wheel alignment. I did some searching on Google and people say that you should do a 4-wheel. However, my friend that knows a lot after taking a few years of auto classes and says that on my car, the solid beam rear suspension does not allow for any adjustment that say a 4-wheel independent suspension would have, and you cannot have it aligned. With this and what the tech said, should I just look into having the front aligned? I've been debating and want to get this done before I start my commutes to school again. Thanks for any help!

solid rear axle = lack of camber adjustment in the rears...which translates to a 2 wheel alignment

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for the advice guys. Ill call up tomorrow and see how much they charge since I thought I remember saying it wasn't too bad of a price at the dealer for the front alignment. I'll call and make sure they don't push a 4-wheel alignment on me. Any idea how much I should expect to pay for this to get done?

Actually on these kind of cars with a solid rear axle, like the same you see on mini vans, the only adjustment that can be made is to take off the entire rear hub assembly and add whatever shims are necessary. If you want to be literal, every vehicle is 4-wheel, because to do a proper alignment, you attach sensors to all 4 wheels and they do get measured. So if someone tells you that its only a 2 wheel, then don't believe them.

I'm a auto technician and yes all info is correct to get a perfect alighmment you would need to put in shims behind the wheel bearings on the maxima. Which should only be off if something is bent lol but uea usually two wheel is pretty good

I've asked two alignment shops about this and they tell me that the rear can be adjusted for toe-in. Not true, eh??

Had an alignment done today after control arms and tie rod replacement and its only a front wheel alignment. Most shops will try and charge you for a 4 wheel alignment just to make money. My shop charges 55.00 for front and 99.99 for 4 wheel.
