Good question.
Has anyone made a good solid run on a Dynojet with a 2002 Max 6 speed?
Heres a run (which Im sure many have already seen), of a 2002 Altima 3.5 SE 5 speed.

Numbers are very close...closer than I expected.
I'm surprised that the Max actually dynoed at 3 HP less...even if it were simply environmental/equipment differences, the power/torque difference between the two engines would not be significantly different.

Wow, this question pops up about every 2 days now. DMBMaxima dynoed his 2k2 6 speed and it put out roughly the same hp and tq as the 5 speed Altima (within 2%). It is now pretty much agreed that the Altima and Maxima are making the same power manual to manual and auto to auto.

Agreed on by who? I've yet to see a proper Dyno of an auto Altima. So what we know so far (from dynos) falls into one of the following categories. Originally posted by Dave B

a) The engine puts out 240HP in both cars. The Nissan automatic tranny in the Maxima is far better than it was the previous year losing only 15% (whereas it used to lose 25%). The Max however has more torque than the Altima. This means that the automatic Max is just as fast as the stick Max and the stick Altima.

I don't know which one is faster, but I heard that maxima is supposed to be way better in handling, another thing that just as important as hp.

OK...I just found the 6 speed dyno plot.
So, what this looks like is that a 2002 6 speed stock puts down the same peak power as a 2000-2001 5 speed with a Y-pipe and CAI.
However, although the peak whp isnt improved all that much, the powerband is much wider on the 2002. A 2000-2001 with the 2 basic mods will make the same peak power, but only at 6400-6500 rpm. The 2002 makes close to 200 whp for about 1500 rpm. This should make for a much faster car.
Strangely enough, the 2002 torque curve looks alot like a 4th gen torque curve. The values are just higher.
