Has anyone made a good solid run on a Dynojet with a 2002 Max 6 speed?

Heres a run (which Im sure many have already seen), of a 2002 Altima 3.5 SE 5 speed.

That one is for an auto though.

Numbers are very close...closer than I expected.

I'm surprised that the Max actually dynoed at 3 HP less...even if it were simply environmental/equipment differences, the power/torque difference between the two engines would not be significantly different.

One car is an auto (the Maxima) and one is a 5 speed (the Altima.)

Thus, you cannot directly compare the numbers.

The fact that the auto Max dynoed so close to the manual Altima tells that the Max 3.5 is actually making more power than the Altima 3.5.

Bring on the 6 speed dynos!

Wow, this question pops up about every 2 days now. DMBMaxima dynoed his 2k2 6 speed and it put out roughly the same hp and tq as the 5 speed Altima (within 2%). It is now pretty much agreed that the Altima and Maxima are making the same power manual to manual and auto to auto.

Agreed on by who? I've yet to see a proper Dyno of an auto Altima. So what we know so far (from dynos) falls into one of the following categories.

a) The engine puts out 240HP in both cars. The Nissan automatic tranny in the Maxima is far better than it was the previous year losing only 15% (whereas it used to lose 25%). The Max however has more torque than the Altima. This means that the automatic Max is just as fast as the stick Max and the stick Altima.

b) The engine puts out 255HP in the Max and 240HP in the Alty. The 6 speed manual is a tad lossy (20%).

c) The engine puts out 240HP in both cars. Ehughes Stillen intake added over 20HP and over 20ft-lbs of torque.

d) The engine puts out 255HP in both cars. All of Nissan's tranny's are absimal with 25% losses. The Max however has more torque than the Altima. This means that the automatic Max is just as fast as the stick Max and the stick Altima.

e) Both cars have 255HP. All the tranies have horrid losses 20%+ for the sticks and 30%+ for the autos. Ehughes Stillen intake added over 20HP and over 20ft-lbs of torque.

and of course all of these theories (except for B) assume that Nissan is openly and blatantly lying to everyone.

I don't know which one is faster, but I heard that maxima is supposed to be way better in handling, another thing that just as important as hp.

So, can someone post the 6 speed 2002 Max dyno here?

OK...I just found the 6 speed dyno plot.

So, what this looks like is that a 2002 6 speed stock puts down the same peak power as a 2000-2001 5 speed with a Y-pipe and CAI.

However, although the peak whp isnt improved all that much, the powerband is much wider on the 2002. A 2000-2001 with the 2 basic mods will make the same peak power, but only at 6400-6500 rpm. The 2002 makes close to 200 whp for about 1500 rpm. This should make for a much faster car.

Strangely enough, the 2002 torque curve looks alot like a 4th gen torque curve. The values are just higher.
