Bulb HID / Ballast question

hey guys just trying to help my daughter she is 200kms away right now ...2003 Maxima

so High beam went out then low beam in a matter of 5 min

so low beam is a HID @ $140 !!!! any cheaper alternatives besides e-bay kinda sketchy buy a bulb on e-bay

high is a ??????????? need help here what is it ?

so easy way to check if its a bulb just switch side to side so going to try and get her to do that .

Ballast how can I check that when she gets here on the weekend ?

and $649 for a new one from Nissan dealer ..got to be a better way ..bone yard only ?

any advice on this ..first time dealing with HIDS , any other possible cause's

Thanks

Check fuses first of course. Switch bulbs to see if its the bulb or ballast. If its the bulb, buy a set because it good to change them at te same time. Aftermarket bulbs are fine. Try and get a decent brand though.

Now if it's the ballast, try to see if you can get a used ballast for a decent price. If not, then buy a hid kit and call it a day.

Sounds like the harness connectors may be loose or grounded out

I've got a pair of OEM Ballast for $80 + shipping, harness can be included but won't work with your stock since it was modified, the ballast are stock. I can include good use OEM bulb for another $20.

You can't use aftermarket ballast so the kit that you are talking about won't work ( well it would with major wiring work).

Easiest way is get the multimeter out and start measuring acros the suspected pins. I would check the voltage across the power harness that feed the ballast, to see if you are getting good reading. If this checks out, then do the same thing on the high beam power wire. With your multimeter, check if you have good ground connections also, trace it all the way to the battery. It sounds like a bad conection somewhere.

Sounds like you have a Canadian Maxima. The Daylight Running Module (DRL) likes to fail and give you headlight problems. Many times the module develops cold solder connections.

well update ( she finally got the car to me !!)

RH ( passenger side ) both low and high out , swapped relays and fuse's , new bulbs still a no go

going to head down the DRL box fix , pretty sure thats what it is ...in fact she fessed up and said that she spilled WW fluid all over that "little box " there and then thats when she noticed the light was out .

so maybe the wires maybe totally shorted , will know when i get it back next weekend

thanks again guys

Spilling the ww juice on it shouldn't have caused that. You drive in the rain and everything under the hood gets soaked. It's probably more being noticed at that time then it was happening at that time.

Yes probably correct she did say she spilled alot , but it is a sealed unit so I'm sure she could not have spilled that much

She's 23 so probably been driving with one light out for awhile
