2000 SE odd transmission problems.

I was driving my 2000 SE (auto) maxima, with aprox 122k miles on it, i stopped in the nissan dealer (ironically) and turned it off as i got out to look at another car, when i got back in and started my car, i went to drive away and had relatively no power, and no reverse. I had the car towed back to my house, because i didn't have money to get it looked at or fixed that day. And i proceeded to look into it the next morning. i started the car, and still had no reverse, but to my surprise first gear seemed to be working, so as i slightly more excitedly trotted my car off the side street onto the main street, i quickly realized, i now have NO GEARs but first... it will not shift out of first at all, which i find completely puzzling as that was the only gear i was lacking the day before. I dont even know where to start on this problem, i have looked all over read countless threads Including things leaning toward the Revolution Speed Sensor and Vehicle Speed Sensor, none of which match my problem exactly. I'm wondering if anyone has a slight clue, and if this Wiki (i was desperate) quote has any merit, and possibility to the problems as well

"This generation of Maxima also saw Nissan introduce a Bridgestone-made engine mount with sensors that communicate with the ECM. Many transmission-like problems such as 'unable to shift into higher gears' resulted from worn engine mounts triggering signals to prevent the vehicle gaining higher speed. This problem was not often detected by the diagnostics conducted on the transmission and ECM as they were not the cause of the problem."

Sorry for the Lengthy post, just hoping for any help

recently ive experienced the same issues with my 2002 se (mt) max, sadly i had to deal with this issue for a few weeks. So i did some online research while i saved up some cash to fix whatever i needed to fix. In the end i replaced both my slave and master clutch cylinders( not to difficult but master was a pain to un/re bolt). I should mention i replaced the stock clutch a few months ago with a SPEC stage 2 clutch and knew eventually the worn clutch cylinders were going to be beat to death, aside from that fact the fluid in the clyinders was almost black, but at 82k miles the clyinders were done. After the new parts were installed the clutch pedal feels way better and i have experianced no issues... but its only been about a week, however i expect no issues to spur up anytime soon, i used beck/arnley slave and master clyinders as i tried to find something that would be more performance related with no avail. Also to add i had my car checked out by an experienced staff member at a reputable transmission specialist shop in my area and he suggested it was what i had guessed was wrong initially. It was painful getting to work with thiss problem, i would let my car warm up for about 15-20 minutes (gas$ down the drain) and it would shift fine for about a minute or two then id come to a stop light and had to start it in 3rd and stay there until my destination or the next light which required me turning it off then starting in 3rd again. I dont know if this wiill help you much since our drive systems are differient with you having an auto and i a manual and i dont know much at all about the auto trannys, but it might have somthing to do with your torque converter or clutch if the max atuo tranys have one instead of the tq converter... i hope this helps you even just a little bit even if it gives you some key words to use in a search for diagnosing your issue... good luck buddy

02coreyd - I'm sure you mean well and are just trying to help, but you're haven't. Auto trans and manual trans are worlds apart.

00Blacked - Have you checked the transmission oil level? What about the check engine light? It's probably on, get the code(s) read. Better yet, go into the service manual and do the self-diagnostic and see what the results are.

Diagnostic starts on page 50:
