Weird question about moisture in the trunk

hi guys,

it was a nice sunny day today and above freezing out so i decided to take a rag and clean the car up a bit. when i opened the trunk i found that my crappy wooden board that covers the spare donut is extremely out of shape. i just bought the car so i hadn't noticed it before. it is a 03 SE

when i took it out of the trunk i saw that the board had severe moisture marks on it. really bad on the left and light the right. the trunk mat is wet as well, soiled on the left and just a bit watery on the right.

what gives? the trunk had been empty all week and what can i use to replace the crappy board that is now destroyed?

Had a similar problem with a previous car. Check the weather stripping by the rear window. Make sure there is no dry rot, slits, holes, and so on. If you have a spoiler make sure that it is not starting to separate from your trunk. As for the board? I replaced my rotten moldy one with come cheap 1/8th inch plywood (used old one to trace out). Painted it with some thick PVA primer. Hope any of this helps.

The rear window could be leaking, the weatherstripping around the trunk opening could be leaking or the taillights could be leaking. It is hard to figure out a water leak without getting in the trunk and having someone hose the car down.

If you want a real nice, fancy cover, buy one from org member djfrestyl:. It won't sag under weight.
