2002 Exhaust Question

Hey All,

I was close to purchasing a Megan Cat Back today from here: http://www.shutokoengineering.com/Me...cbs-nm0002.htm

Problem is the online ordering doesn't seem to be working. Now I'm at work and I guess I could call but I haven't done so yet.

Since the online purchase didn't work I did some reading here and read that Megan is respected but many also just purchase Ebay cat backs. I have to say I'm not a fan of the 4" tip on those though.

I did find this muffler though for $54 and free shipping: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Catback-Polis...ht_2817wt_1212

Does anyone have experience with this muffler? Can I just bolt this in, or do I need to cut and weld it on? I thought I read something about the stock Maxima cat back being 2-piece not 3-piece.

This is my daily driver (put 30,000 miles on a year) and I have two young sons and a wife who will not be impressed with a loud annoying exhaust. I want a bit more noise, low cost outlay (it is a $5,000 car), and something fairly straight forward to install.

Thoughts...

Megan catbacks show up on eBay occasionally. I bought mine from this seller (http://stores.ebay.com/JDWholesale?_rdc=1) with free shipping.

If you don't want to wait for a Megan to come around, you can try the SRS catback (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAXIMA-CATBA...-/220683515881) which is basically a knock off of the Megan. There's a review thread here (http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ck-review.html)

Also, did you try Megan's own website? (http://www.meganracingperformance.com/)

If you can't find Megan try SRS- it is pretty much the same.

If all you want is more noise, change the muffler.

Thanks guys, I'll check out those options.

A bit more noise is my first priority. I'm not against a bit more power to though obviously! I have a 300whp Miata as my toy so I can get my speed kicks with that and I find the Maxima pretty quick in stock form for a family four door.

The wife is ok with a bit more noise, but she won't like droaning (neither will I actually) on highway trips. The young boys love the noise...gun it and get lots of "vroom vroom go fast dad" remarks from the back seat!

Ok maybe I'll leave alone for now. If I replace say just the resonator with something a little more free flowing will I get a nice noise or just annoying?

Resonator with no other mods wont make a difference. VERY little on tone. But that's it.

Ok thanks. I have an exhaust leak now...flex pipe in the y-pipe is shot. So I've contacted Cattman about a y-pipe for the car. I'll start there and see what she sounds like when that's done.

Appreciate the help everyone.
