Worth doing these re-learns?

I cleaned out my MAF a few months back and put in a new battery shortly after. Forgive me if I sound like an amateur, but should the new battery installation have reset the ECU? Would doing the accelerator position, throttle valve closed pos. and idle air re-learns (in this order) be a good way to 'refresh' the system on an 11 yr-old car? I know these procedures should typically never be required but I am just curious about them.

Not sure if it's worth the trouble. I just spent a day working on my car with the battery disconnected the entire time. When done I reconnected the battery and fired up the car with no issues. Some think the cars get amnesia after the battery is disconnected, I've never seen any evidence to support it.

FWIW: Nissan does not recommend cleaning the MAF, my '02 has 240K on it and it has never been cleaned. I've looked at it a few times over the years but see nothing on it.

I wouldn't, but it's a good time to get some practice at it.

Technically, the manual says you only have to do a throttle or IAC relearn if they or the ECU is disconnected. It says nothing about the battery. I've had my battery disconnected multiple times without issue. But as soon as I disconnected my IAC valve I popped a code requiring a relearn. Not sure why this is the case.

Did you disconnect the IACV with the battery still connected? I owned a BMW for a short while and found out unplugging the harnesses under the seat ( I was removing the front seats to clean up a nasty soft drink spill) with the battery connected would set the airbag light. It took a trip to the shop to get the airbag light reset. Maybe the IACV behaves the same way?

Nooo, I had the battery out. Was pulling the intake manifold to install spacers and to replace the rear valve cover. I always disconnect the battery first. But I had the battery disconnected several times while installing my Nav and never had to do the relearn after that.

I have a 2000 I-30 and had the IAC valve changed yesterday because of a code PO505. The battery was removed first and then the IACV changed. The mechanic started the car up, the "Check Engine soon" light went off, no re-learn, no more erratic idle, and the car purrs at 700 RPM.

And, the ECU was not fried as some on the boards said would be the case.
