02-03 rear calipers stuck
I have a 2002 Maxima. For the third time, I have to replace the rear calipers. I last had them replaced 10 months ago, and the same problem is occurring. I have very little gripping power in the rear brakes. I never had a problem with the front brakes. It is as though the rear calipers get stuck in the open position, and over time the rear rotors get pitted and rusty because the rear calipers will not engage, and almost all of the braking power is from the front brakes. I am getting ready to put on the new rear calipers. It is getting quite expensive to replace the rear calipers, rotors, and pads every time this invariably happens. Can anyone tell me how to avoid this problem from reoccurring and what is causing this to happen?

Common problem for mostly all of the gens with the turn piston calipers. Can't really avoid. They seize and you would have to replace them. Check out advanceautoparts.com, and coupon codes online, i got them for alittle over $100 in total.

you can try to buy rebuild kit, if you are pretty handy and have tools to rebuild your calipers. i did all four myself wihtout any issues, since my car was 12 yrs old, and first time I needed new brake pads and noticed the seals are dirty or about to tear apart, so I went ahead and got rebuilt kit and cleaned my calipers with part cleaner and put everything back together like it new. It came out well without buying new reman calipers.

Just throwing this out as a related issue. Also check to ensure your ebrake cable is releasing all the way. The cable itself can seize, prevent the caliper from fully releasing at times, and create over heating, warped rotors, rapid pad wear, damage to caliper, etc. may not be your problem, but such a common issues on these cars it's in your best interest to check things out while you're in there.
