I have an 03 non bose maxima se and some speakers sound blown, so i recently purchased factory bose door speakers. are they direct replacement or do i need the bose head unit and amp for them to work?

they are NOT direct swap...the BOSE has a pre-amp out iirc.

Get non-BOSE speakers

Not inexpensively. If you have enough money, anything is possible. Bose systems use 2 ohm speakers, while the rest of the world uses 4 ohm or 8 ohm. If you bypass the speaker's amplifier and wire direct to the speaker, a non-Bose radio will over drive the speakers and you will have distortion until you blow out the speakers or possibly burn up the driver transistors in the head unit.

Have you not heard the ****ty bose speakers or something? You could probably make it work, but I assume the harness is different, and all of the wiring to the door will need re-wired. And I am pretty sure there is an amp at each speaker, so you will need to get those. Just get some normal speakers. Save yourself time, money and a headache.

The speakers you bought, yes, but then you'd have to buy MORE bose speakers to replace teh factory ones that DO work currently...

And btw, the wiring is likely different as well.
Not 100% sure, but I think you need to get a whole new wiring harness and all that crap.

SELL YOUR BOSE SPEAKERS and get some NON-bose ones dude.

Return them and buy non-bose speakers. It will be cheaper to just buy non-bose speakers than it would be to convert your whole system to make those bose speakers work.

The Bose speakers have a different wiring harness for the doors. I know cause I swapped some doors and the harness is different between Bose and non-bose. Too much work to make this happen. Don't bother. If u really want better sound get an aftermarket system do alot of reading to find out what u need.

better yet sell them and buy ANY 6.5 aftermarket speakers. dont go to the trouble of finding the stock non-bose junkers.

there is only a single amp in the trunk next to where the sub sits. I have the bose and whish it did not come with them as they do sound like crap with no highs and nothing in the mid lows (aka baritone sax area).

So I would return them and buy some nicer standard speakers and a amp to power them and you will be a lot happier and not have to rerun cable like I do.
