Did all the brakes.

This is what I was dealing with... Original 2003 Nissan Pads and Rotors. 145k Miles later.

Went with Brembo blanks and Akebono Pro Act pads because I got a sweet deal through my employer.

Also rebuilt the calipers, replaced the hardware and guide pins, regreased everything w/ synthetic moly brake lube, wire brushed them down and resprayed it all with high temp gun metal metallic. Oh, and flushed and bled the old fluid for new of course. It felt like art. lol.

Finished product... just in time for the rain.

@ Pearl93VE

Nice job dude, looks great. Something I'm gonna need to do shortly, still have my OEM's on as well that look basically same as your old ones in that pic. Also looking to rebuild calipers, and paint them either some kind of grayish silver to match car or go with black calipers which could also look real nice.

Are you putting them in the grille, or behind the grille? I've also been thinking of doing driving lights in the grille. Sorta like the mustang gr/cobra. I think it'd look kool!

I am thinking behind the grille, but I also mocked them up in the lower grill too, and I think it jives better on the lower grill... Ill try to snap a few mock up picks... I also picked up a slick pair of LED fog lights ("off road use only") They might end up behind the upper grill.

Sprayed my y-pipe bolts with PB blaster to get ready for this weekend.

I have a stock pile of yummy parts to install install into my maxima so this weekend it begins.

I replacing the Y-pipe with a warpspeed one , new high flow catalytic converter and full SRS 2.5" exhaust duel outlet tip.

Also installed my new rims/ tires this weekend.

Next weekend i'm replacing both both front lower control arms.

Change the OEM fuel pump (12 years of service until it died) for a HFP fuel pump (HFP-342 255 LPH).

Not a big deal, just a little modification in the pump housing and it fits.

New rotors and pads on the front today and then a good washing. Just bought my max less than a week ago and finally got a chance to start some work. Next week I think I might take care of the struts.

I have 21,048k until I'm at 100k.

I don't want that day to come, but when it does I'm gonna make sure to go WOT on the highway as I do it.

Oh yeah, I finally sealed my one headlight today that kept getting small amounts of moisture creeping in there during very hard rain.

Took out the good ol' heat gun and heat up the sealant in there and pressed it together, worked like a charm. It was a minor fix so I think it should hold up without the need for any more sealant.

Finally, and I mean finally after over 1.5 yrs now of owning my car I BROKE MY BACK today and BENT OVER BACKWARDS to give it what it truly deserved - a proper engine bay cleaning (but still needs another minor one since this was my first cleaning), re-checking all electrical connections and cleaning off all dirt, putting electric grease on connections where needed and finishing with fusing vinyl electric tape, and also a little dress up:

Spent all day in the hot sun in the parking lot doing this, trying to hide under the tree from the heat. All day on my HANDS AND KNEES doing this! jk

Next thing will be installing my own custom made grounding kit and a CustomMaxima FTSB, hopefully will have time to do that over the next few days.

Also, found dude in my area who's going to sell me his old Stillen battery tie down, black Nismo oil cap, and black nismo radiator cap all for $10 so that should really make it look nicer.

BTW, ^^^ may be just a tad overkill on the homo jokes (hands and knees, bent over, etc). Just seemed like the proper thing to do.

Mounted some 225/40/18 hankook Ventus tires on the 350z's (coming from 225/45). The setup looks much better on the car. The rims look bigger and tires look like a better fit. Not only do they ride good, but the lower overall diameter has my acceleration hitting much better!

Today I did the DIY subframe collars. $16 bucks for 12 pretty thick 2 3/4" washers. I recommend this to everyone. The car drives like new, it doesn't feel sloppy any more, it handles bumps with ease now, and the shifting/acceleration has improved. Overall the best suspension mod for the buck I have done.

So I'm all about coilovers, just like many others on here. I'll def be lowering my car, tightening suspension, installing RSB, FTSB, FSB, and subframe collars, and lots more, etc, etc. BUT one thing I don't get is why everyone goes with the 18" wheels.

Is there any reason besides looks to do this? I mean, I know the 18"s are gonna look slightly better than 17" but isn't that also making it worse? In terms of speed + handling (more weight, bigger turning radius, bigger spinning radius, etc)? I personally wouldn't want to go past 17" on size.

I always thought that some nice 235/40/17 on there or even 225/40 is the best way to go, and with a drop it's not really gonna look much worse than the 18"s no?

It just seems like the majority of people are going more for looks rather than performance, which is actually true most of the the time with most cars. What do you guys think? 18"s just for looks but keep 17"s for performance?

(RUNS AND HIDES FROM ALL 18" WHEEL OWNERS)

Its not all about looks.

There are tons of X factors that you are not incoorperating. Just ask yourself why porsches and Ferraris and Lambos and pretty much all cars that are associated with high performance come with 18, 19, 20's or biggger and not 17's. And all economical cars like corolla's, civics etc come with 15, 16, 17's? Do you think its just all for looks?

Finally put an intake on ole girl. She SCREAMS over 5k rpm. Interesting note is that the power really comes on around 2.5k-3k rpm now. No more winding it past 4k rpm to get moving good.

Well, I've never seen a good performance car come with anything bigger than 18's, that's usually the gold standard. And on a car like the M3, maybe it makes sense. On a Maxima? It's been proven that the 16" wheels are the fastest, followed by the 17", you get the point.

And BTW I've never seen a stock corolla or civic with 17"s. And I've also heard a million times that going above 18" is stupid even on M3. So again, how is it that this is an improvement on the MAXIMA? (not Porche or Ferrarri). There is a reason those cheap economy cars don't have big wheels, they're slow as **** and not made for em, have you ever seen a moron driving a corolla S with 19"s on it? Thing is slow like a tricycle!

Not meaning to hijack thread, so sorry!
Seriously let's get back on topic.

Installed my FTSB last night, makes it look so much better, nothing in the way of performance improvements, just looks. (similar to those big wheels eh?) Look, I'm really just a hater of big wheels, and more than likely the people with 20"s on their Maxima's are the reason for this. I'm really not hating on you dude, I'd probably put 18's on mine too, it's these "ghetto" big rims and air-ride Maximas that make my **** boil.

I should have been more specific with that one quote I used ^^^

GT-R has 500+ hp so I can't really see it on 17"s, it would never get any traction. It makes sense, that's a supercar though basically.

I'm talking about the more average sports car, that some people can actually afford like the Nissan Z, BMW M3 or 330 coupe, Subaru STI, etc. But really I guess it all comes down to the wheel power a car is making, that's what influences the wheel size. For cars around 200-300whp usually you never see anything bigger than 18", and many of those use 17".

So for the most part, bigger wheels obviously = added weight, reduced turning radius, larger spinning diameter, etc. But if you have at least 300+ horsepower then yeah you're gonna need some more rubber on the road and bigger size to boot because of traction needs. Plus AWD vs. FWD vs. RWD comes into play as well.

As a general rule, for the most part, yes that is true. But why do the new Maximas come with 18's, and 19 as the sport option?

My inlaws bought a prius V and it came with 17s weird thing is, though..they have hubcaps too...but the wheels look better withOUT the hubcaps.
