Key stuck in ignition fix
Hello,
I couldn't find the fix before for my problem here so I thought I'd post what fixed it for me.
CLIFFS: Key wouldn't turn off and was stuck, pulled engine fuse then wouldn't idle too, dealership wanted to replace assembly for $500, locksmith fixed existing for $250, good to go now
.
About a week ago I tried to turn my 2000 maxima 5spd off and couldn't! The key was stuck in the on position in the ignition cylinder. I could turn it forward to crank it but couldn't turn it any further back.
I stupidly pulled an engine fuse to kill the engine and only then realized I could have popped the clutch at low revs and caused it to lurch forward and kill the engine. Thus I think I messed up something because the car wouldn't idle after except occasionally at a very low level.
Anyway the dealership said they would need to replace the entire assembly with a new one at a cost of about $500. I called a local major locksmith who was confident they could fix it for $250 and they did! Turns out the key was really worn down and they had to remove the entire assembly and take it apart to fix it. Oddly after they coded a new key and gave me the car back it fixed the idle?
