6th gen auto axle swap

So I recently bought a 2000 maxima auto with hell of problems. One problems is the axles are horrible. So I was talking to one of my buddies and brought the idea of putting 6th gen axles in my car. His mom owns a 6th gen. I did some research and turns out the axles on the 6th gen are a lot bigger and durable. But couldn't find anything about anyone swapping them into a 5th gen most likely because the trannies are different. Just wondering if anyone has done it before? Or if it's even possible

If I can't find anything I'm likely gonna pull my out, and pull out the one out of his moms and compare and see if it's do-able

if im not mistaken, much of the control for the 6th gen auto would take place over CAN, which the 5th gen doesnt have and the 5.5 gen barely has. Mechanically it might not be too hard, but the control could be a nightmare

Trannys are nearly identical (4AT for the 04, 00-03 4AT). So, going from a 6th gen to a 00 shouldn't be a problem. The other way around, I'd say it be a nightmare for control, like Gemner said.

When you say the axles are better, as in what way? Larger diameter, more splines? Hubs should be fairly similar too, just swapping speed ABS sensors would be the most difficult part.

With the 5th gen / 6th gen chassis being different, the length of the axles may be different also, so check carefully.
