Cranks but does not start

Ok so I searched 1st.

Just sold my 03 maxima with 100k on it to some lady last night. Now she says it will not turn on. It will crank but not fire. She has tried all 3 keys I gave her.

Anyone have an idea? I never once had an issue with it starting.

She lives like 45m away so I can't see if it is throwing a code. I guess that would be my next step? Drive down read the codes and hope it is something easy?

Would a bad coil stop a car from starting? I thought it would just misfire.

Possibly a bad CPS?

I told her to take the positive terminal off the battery and give it an hour. Hoping that something resets itself...

I almost want to pay her to take it to a mechanic as I want nothing to do with it anymore. Unfortunately that means paying for a tow and going to some garage I never used before...any suggestions are welcome.

Even though you tried different keys, have her look to see if the security light is solid while she's cranking. It's been awhile but if I remember correctly the light will go solid while cranking if the NATS has been triggered.

^^^^ definitely find out about this. This could be it.

As for the ignition coils, the car would still start with 2 dead coils, MAYBE even 3.

dumb question, but is it a 6 speed? Does she know that to start a 6 speed she has to have her foot on the clutch?

Auto.

The security light by the clock in the center of the dash does not stay on while cranking. It is blinking though...Should it only blink when the alarm is set right?

She just txt'd me while I was writing this. It turned on like it should and continues to turn on like it should after she turns it off and no check engine lights.

My only thought is they somehow confused the car's alarm status with the aftermarket alarm which has been installed for 5 years. How I have no idea...

Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully this car stays SOLD.

You know i had this problem before when i used to use my spare set of keys.i found out that having the 09 fob, pathfinder and altma keys all on the same ring caused the starting issue.
