Serpentine belt not aligning properly

I have an 02 Max. Replaced the power steering pump 20K miles ago. Shredded the belt recently, so I replaced it. This is when I noticed that it was not aligned properly. Should have seen this before when I installed the new pump but missed it. Took the pulley wheel off to make sure it was seated correctly and still off about an 1/8 of an inch. I have tighten the belt to a 1/4 inch give, but I know that eventually this will get shredded as well. I do have the correct pump, however it was a cheapy bought at advanced auto. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the problem and/or solution?

Thanks,

Jez

Pardon me, but I have been drinking a bit...

If your belts dont' line up that' means yo **** is off son.

Re-align them azz-sess-so-rees, speceifically d pwr steering pump.

[Sober edit]

You can align the PS pump, using that slidy thingy (That secures the pump to the block w/o having the bolt in).

Hopefully your pump is too far inward (towards the middle of the car) and not too far outward (towards the wheel). If it's too far outward... errrr.... Just buy a used oem pump (from me!) because Nissan's PS Pumps are pretty well built until the Mexicano part take over in the 6th gens.
