5th Gen Starting Problem

5th Gen Starting Problem
I have a 2002 Maxima and have a new issue...
I cannot get the car to start. It will fire over as if it is going to run, but will die as if it is starving for fuel. I give it gas, and it seems to die faster.
Here is a list of what I have tried thus far:
1. Cleaned MAF sensor (with prescribed MAF cleaning spray)
2. Cleaned (as best I can) the throttle body, without actually pulling from car
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Try scanning the car for codes. I literally JUST suffered from this same issue. The ECU threw absolutely no codes related to the MAF, but that is exactly what it ended up being. The ECU threw codes for the cam sensors, and even for random misfire, but no MAF. A buddy of mine hooked up his crazy scan tool up, and it was then that I could see the MAF reading wasn't changing at all.
Here's something you can try. Unlplug the MAF. If the car can keep an idle after that, then your problem lies right there.

Thanks...I will give this a try.

Thanks again! It worked!
It kept an idle once the MAF was unplugged, but it smoked a good bit (obvious air/gas smoke not oil). Will this clear up once I change the MAF, or do you think that I need to go through the throttle re-learn procedures?
