Battery Recommendations
Battery Recommendations
Hello Fellows.
I am about to replace my battery and looking for recommendations. What groups size does the 2002 SE Maxima take?
And I do have aftermarket audio equipment (2 amps, subs, speakers, DVD/Navi Unit).
I would appreciate your recommendations - I hear a lot about the Optima Yellow/Red tops and the Sears Platinuum Die Hards - and would appreciate your thoughts.
rgds, Noela

Web searching told me Optima Yellow/Red top quality went downhill after they got bought out
Diehard has good reviews too but hard to find in Canada
From what I was told, you are supposed to try to find the highest CCA you can find

The physical size is group 24. Group 74 is a little larger and I think it will fit. If you live in a cold climate like George, then the more CCA a battery can provide, the better. Not as important for me.
Those Yellow Tops are living on past reputation, I would say stay away from them, they are not worth the money. Sears is good, Walmart has a good battery, too. Most batteries are good. Compare the power (CCA, reserve) specs for the price they want.

All batteries are made from I think three different companies, the main one, Johnson Controls, makes almost every battery there is- So you wont find much variation in quality. Your stock battery is a group 24. Anything above 600 CCA would be a good replacement as the Nissan replacement is 500-something. I just got a 800 CCA Duralast Gold, I run a 1000 watt RMS amplifier in my car, Solid performance in Ohio, we're seeing 30 degree weather now. $100 at Autozone.
Optima RedTops are still good, have them in 2 of my vehicles. RedTop i have in my truck is rated for 800CCA i think, last time i tested it with a machine it said nearly 1300CCA. started my old Nissan pickup outside in -50C last winter with no battery warmer or anything, since then ive only gone RedTop
