Radiator Support: Need part selection advice

Hey all,

I'm having a really stupid problem, and I'm fairly convinced someone here knows their way around Nissan parts well enough to help me.

I have been trying to order an OEM lower radiator support bracket so that I can have mine replaced. For some reason, nobody is 100% sure if my car is an "early" or a "late" 2001 model, even with the VIN. The parts books list two different options for a 2001 Max. (Mine is an i30, but part numbers are the same) I should also make it clear that the people I talked to on the phone did not seem like they knew what they were doing and were very unwilling to look anything up for me once I explained that I had an Infiniti, but wanted a Nissan part. The closest Infiniti Dealer is 150 miles from here. I'm sure this is a rather simple procedure.

Anyway.

This is my vin: JNKCA31A71T005407

Where do we go from here?

The production date for your car is June 2000, but it's 2001 model year.

should be a label on the inside door jam with date of manufacture. there are also Nissan parts websites that will use your VIN to point you to the right part number.

Plim, Now I feel stupid -- I never even thought to look there, and I'm the one always harping on people around here to check that tag for tire pressures and such.

And Costee.... what you just sent me there is absolutely awesome -- but you can now see my dilemma!

July of 1999 to June of 2000 use the 2Y000 part, and June 2000 onwards uses the 5Y000 part. But when in June? End of June? Beginning of June? Benny & Joon? Damn, why couldn't I have bought a July car.

The link is specifically for your car. What's the code number (the first five digits) of the part?
Since yours is the 2001 model year then it should be 5Y000.

Costee -- Here's what I was seeing that confused me (and probably the other parts guys) I got this after clicking the link you gave me.

So a 2001 means go with the later version, 5Y000.

I am completely embarassed that I never even made that connection, even though I did see that it was a superceded part number early on.

Costee, thank you for taking the time to spell all this out to me. I feel like an idiot!

FYI. There are two emission specs for the I30: Federal (Up to June 2000); and USA (from June 2000). As you would have seen from the link yours is the USA spec.
Keep us posted.
