Would any semi-loaded calipers work seeing as I am going to use aftermarket brake pads? Also I guess that there is a left front driver and right front passenger caliper and they cannot double as the same part. There are just so many random brands of calipers like a1 cardone, centric, powerstop, raybestos, and I am really not sure which one to choose from as they may all vary reliability wise.

Is there any place to just get regular 6th gen semi-loaded calipers at a decent price instead of wandering around aimlessly on the internet looking at no name calipers that will probably get me into a future crash?
And semi-loaded calipers are everything I need, mounting brackets and such as well as caliper with no brake pads, right?

 

Don't exactly understand everything you wrote above Bishop but here is what I think you are looking for in an answer.

If you want to do the 6th gen BBK you will need:
- 6th gen calipers. Yes there is a right and left side. They are different.
- 6th gen brake pads. If you buy loaded calipers then you won't need to buy pads.
- 6th gen rotors.

Disconnect brake lines, remove calipers, pads and rotors. Replace with new rotors, pads and calipers. Reconnect brake lines and bleed the brake system.

Raybestos, centric, cardone are all known brands. You should be fine with them. Just beware of no name ebay brands.

This is a basic setup that will be far superior to the OEM setup currently on your car. There are other options if you have patience for them but they can require additional adapter brackets, etc..

 

@OP - go to vendor section and talk to importrp. You also need gen 6 brake mounting hardware which can be bought from dealership

 

Also there is a section on here for that.it will tell you everything you need to know.

Wrong again. First you say mounting hardware and now shim kits. George you're going to send this guy searching for things he doesn't need. The post you referenced talks about OEM pads which apparently need a shim kit. Most pads do not. They come included.

 

There should be a sticky that says don't listen to George....

Yeah I had a general idea of the task at hand which quite frankly isn't that big of a challenge at all. And yes I have heard about George all the way outside of the org on a Facebook page.

 

Crap, one last question, sorry to bother, but if I order loaded calipers, does that include the caliper bracket as well since it is "loaded"?

 

If you order loaded then you get the caliper and pads together in one package. All you would need at that point would be rotors to do the swap. Everything will just bolt on.

Sorry to re-ignite this thread. But couldn't you just order the power stop kit part#KC091 and it have everything you need? Instead of trying to track down and pay for all the parts separately. I have no experience with this kit or powerstop just figured this would be a one stop shop and make it really easy for anybody interested in the upgrade. Rockauto has the kit for 250 I believe plus shipping. Just trying to help out.

I just bought my Dad's beloved 2003 Maxima and I need a full set of brake, but after reading this thread I'm really confused.

To clarify: If I purchase rotors, pads and calipers at Napa for a 2004 Maxima, I will have everything I need to do the job. These parts will drop in with no mods. Correct?

And what rubber floor mats do you guys recommend? I'm thinking about WeatherTech.

 

Not a 5th gen but just did the 6th gen BBK upgrade on my 4th gen. It's alot more work to put these calipers on a 4th gen than it is to put them on a 5th gen but definitely worth it!

Finally installed these bad boys . I also recommend a bleed and flush with new brake fluid.


doesnt look like muchh cause the gle wheels kind of hide the big rotors but the stopping power is much more compared to the stock fade prone rotors.

 

They are definitely a stealthy setup that pack a punch.

 

5.5 gen needs no modifications for the 6 gen brakes? Any year 6 gen?

 

Yeah just 6th gen calipers with 6th gen brackets and 6th gen front pads. SE wheels clear the calipers by about 1mm I have read and GLE wheels have plenty of space to spare. No modifications needed since its just a simple bolt on swap.

 

outdated design? Do tell how caliper technology has changed in the last 20 years? Its a simple piston pushed by hydraulic fluid with seals clamping on a piece of metal to create friction. Thats like calling socks outdated
