Camshaft Position Sensor Location (with picture)

My 03 Max has been shutting off while driving. It also occasionally has small burst and loss of power while driving. I'm getting code P0340: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
From reading online, the Camshaft Position Sensor could be bad and so I am looking at replacing it. The Bank 1 sensor is the one closer to the firewall. In the picture below, I have an arrow pointing to what I think is the CPS I should be replacing. I just need someone to confirm this since before I proceed.

The sensor with the green connector tab is the correct CPS for Bank 1 ... you will also note that it straight in appearance, The CPS sonsor for Bank 2 has an angle in it.

I have had the same issue of stalling out while driving except my code was for the CPS sensor for Bank 2 ... once I replaced it I have had no further issues

Thanks, I'll replace it tomorrow. I think I'll be able to get in there w/out having to remove anything. I have relatively small hands. Hopefully it resolves the issue. Any experience with ebay parts such as this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Camshaft-Pos...6df104&vxp=mtr

I had a fittment issue with the aftermarket CPS for Bank 2 as the bolt hole would not line up properly I can not speak for the CPS Bank 1 sensor, I wound up having to get a OEM replacement for my needs.

I do perfer to use OEM replacement sensor's to avoid any fitment issues or crappy quality issues

Don't waste your money buying it from O'reilly nor AZ it won't last a year....NAPA carries the Delphi brand which is a better replacement.....But I replaced all my Camshaft sensors and Crank Sensor with new OEM units...Only CEL I ever received in the 11 yrs owning this car off the showroom floor!

I've got everything out but I can't get the connector to disconnect from the sensor. I've pushed the green clip in till it clicks and per this video:
at the 1:20 mark, the sensor is supposed to just pop off the clip but it won't for me. I've tried using all the strength and jiggling it a bit but nothing works. What gives!

Do you even read?

He's having a problem with the clip and that's not his video, just a reference he watched to try to help himself.

Shobuddy, maybe try a flathead screwdriver to push the clip in all the way.
Might take a third hand, but you'll get it.

Good luck!

Thats funny, my car just threw a P0345 code on my way home. I have the parts car so I just took it out and put it in. Less than ten minutes. The back sensor looks a little more difficult to reach but it shouldn't be bad. Also, there is a recall from Nissan for this, you should check the VIN and see if your car is covered. I checked and mine is, so I'm going to call Nissan tomorrow and see if they can do it.

The first part is about infiniti, but if you scroll down to the bottom, it gives the list of Nissan VIN's that are affected.

I could not get the connector off the sensor to save my life so I took it into a gas station this morning. I know the guy that runs the place so he had a mechanic help me out and with the help of a long fork screwdriver the guy was about to get it off. I popped in the new CPS and all is good. I noticed the car running smoother on my way to work and hopefully no more issues with cutting out while driving. Thanks for all the input.

I had a feeling it would take a 3rd hand and a screwdriver.

Glad you got that headache over with.

I've driven about 80 miles since changing the CPS. The car is running smooth without cutting out, however, the P0340 code is still there. Am I supposed to clear the code or does the ECU clear the code itself once the issue is gone?

If any of your ever break you can replace them with the style found at the crankshaft position Sensor which is easier to unlock....you can find them on 2.4L Altima(s), Sentra(s), G35(s)...etc...Release the pins from the old body and insert into the new body....

You need to push down the green tab first to release the lock , then pull out the whole connector. I am hoping that mechanic did not mess up the green tab because you only need to use the finger to push it down. Better replace both camshaft position sensor and crankshaft Position sensor at the same time with OEM Genuine Nissan parts

This morning I noticed the CEL was gone. I was surprised because I had two codes. I was expecting the P0340 code to go away but the CEL to stay on for the other code, P0420. In any case, I'm glad the CEL is gone, however, when I pulled OBD codes, I still got both the P0420 and P0340 codes. They both show as "current" and not "pending". What kind of behavior is this where the CEL is off but the OBD reader still pulls codes? Is this normal?
