Struts / Shocks Close To OEM

Need to replace struts / shocks on my 02 GLE. Was going to go with Tokico HP Blues but I can't find them anywhere. Anyone else know of a strut / shock that is a similar ride to OEM?

Search for djfreestyl suspension thread and start reading from post#1

Options are many on struts, lowering spring or ready to install units...not to mention coilovers

Read the thread then shoot a pm to djfreestyl for some knowledge .

Tokico run out of business. The only option is to get KYB( tirerack.com) and Bilstein (autoanything.com)

djfrestyl's thread is definitely the best place for you to look, but I have also heard that Monroe Sensatracs are very close to the stock ride, just a little bit softer. Plus they are relatively cheap and readily available at most auto parts stores. KYB's are excellent but a little pricier and harder to come by.

Since it was mentioned, I got Monroe Sensatrac quick struts for the front a short while ago. Price was right, and while they aren't anything special they're perfectly fine for me (and for you if the stock ride is your goal). I like em, and nothing to complain about so far. Are they softer though as mentioned? I have no idea, my outgoing struts were so worn I couldn't remember what stock feels like... :-)

Have to call you on that one.

They're still alive and well as it were. It seems that their offerings are aimed toward newer cars but they're definitely still around.

EDIT: After a quick browse through their catalog, it seems my last statement is incorrect. They still offer struts for the Maxima, as well as many other older models. Not sure who distributes them anymore, but they're available.

On amazon the tokico are more expensive then kyb.

Kyb feels so firm and nice though.
Amazon.com: KYB KIT 4 FRONT & REAR shocks / struts 2002 - 03 NISSAN Maxima (Exc. Electronically Adj. Susp.): Automotive Amazon.com: KYB KIT 4 FRONT & REAR shocks / struts 2002 - 03 NISSAN Maxima (Exc. Electronically Adj. Susp.): Automotive

for alittle more vs the tokico might as well go for koni which are fantastic and I have in my bmw.

^^ Awesome video, but you're breaking rules.

No street racing videos.

Better delete that.

^^What about low but not slammed? There are too many shades of grey here.

I recommend posting in my thread your height preferences, ride preferences, budget, expected length of vehicle ownership, how many miles on the car, etc. This helps me recommend a customized parts list that suits your preferences and budget.

Is there another strut by KYB that I can use with lowering springs? Something other than AGX or GR2's since I've heard that the GR'2 are a little stiff for some people's likings.. I'm sitting on Tokico Illuminas and progress springs so I want something similar but I don't want adjustable because of the price. Feedback pls.
Putting H&R springs or Progress on if I can find them.

I have no idea where you heard that GR-2's are stiff. And I have no idea why this myth exists. They're perfectly comfortable and are fully capable of handling an H&R drop.

I would not go any lower on GR2's though. If you get H-Tech or can find Progress, I say stick with Illuminas.

Last November, I replaced the OEM struts on my 2000 SE with KYB GR-2/Excel and I am very happy with the result. They ride very much like the OEM struts did when new. And they are not expensive (when purchased from RockAuto.com).

Are Koni Yellow capable of handling Progress Springs?

What springs do you have on that?

The original OEM springs. My car is the SE version, so they are stiffer, I think, than those on the GLE. Rides nice - no floating at all.
