New alternator creating 13.4V at idle
Just this minute I picked up my car from a local mechanic with a new alternator.
He charged me $180 for the part and $145 (1.5 hours) for the labor which seemed very reasonable.
I tested it with a volt meter and I am getting a reading of only 13.4V when the car is idling. When I revved the engine to 3,000RPM, I still only got around 13.9V.
I measured the current while the engine was running with one of those clamp style meters and got only 33A running so I don't think there was an excessive draw of amperage (all accessories and lights were off).
Did I just get robbed or is this normal?
