How can you tell? I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima with a P0300 diags code. I'm going to switch out the spark plugs (they are like really old @ 132,000). But someone suggested that I get the coils changed. I really don't want to spend the $300+ on the coils right now. So if it happens just to be one....how can I tell?

Do you have a trouble code for a specific cylinder?

Until the ECU throws a specific code there is no way to know which one it is. You can get a new coil and start swapping it from cylinder to cylinder to see where it is going to make a difference, but that involves more work.

 

I have been getting that code every so often for the last 3 years, car always feels great never felt a misfire but p0300 always comes back, after 3 years I finally got a code for cylinder 6 misfire, I swapped in a new oem coil car still feels great I hope that was my problem.

 

If the engine is running good and isn't misfiring and you don't have the P1320 ot P0300 code, you don't need new coils.

 

I was thinking about doing the plugs myself. No specific cylinder code.

 

Ok .any codes?..since you have to remove the manifold to access bank 1....I'll just buy some cleaner and coil grease to refurbish you coil boots in case they have corrosion build up on the spring,since you dont want to do the job twice , if you trigger a misfire code after removal and installation,

since you don't have any codes or funds I'll say leave 'em.

 

I have the same problem and my car sucks.... when not misfiring it's a beast
