No replacement tire thread?

Not that it makes a difference now, since I just had 4 new tires installed, but I'm surprised there's no tire thread here. FWIW, I just got 4 Falken Ziex 612 at Discount Tire, $460 installed out the door, not too bad. It's my kids car, and he only drives around the neighborhood really, so max 7-8k miles per year, making longevity less of a concern. They seemed fine on that long 5.5mile drive home. It's gotta be an upgrade for him - the car previously had 4 different tires on it! Not even the same type of tread patterns. We had just talked about needing to change the whole lot when he completely blew the tread and sidewall off one yesterday!

Sorry to disappoint you, but cheap tires such as Falken Ziex usually turn out to be very expensive in the end. Here is my experience (2000 Maxima SE, 225/50-17 tires):
  1. Falken Ziex 512: Lasted only 18k miles before becoming very noisy and worn out. Poor tire, never handled really well, did not have enough muscle for the Maxima. Original price $530. On pro-rated basis, the Falkens did cost me $28.43 per 1000 miles.
  2. Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position: Original cost $723, lasted for 48k miles and there was still thread left. Great tire - handled well dry, wet, snow. On pro-rated basis, the Bridgestones did cost me $15.3 per 1000 miles.
Take a second to note that the "cheap" tires turned out to be almost twice as expensive as the "expensive" tires ($28.43 for the Falkens vs. $15.30 for the Potenzas) !!

I just replaced my Bridgestones with a set of Michelins (Pilot Sport A/S 3). I was tempted to buy "inexpensive" tires, but after I did the above analysis, I went with the Michelins. BTW, I also purchase all my tires at Discount/America's Tire.

Like I said, longevity is not really a big concern. The chances of him keeping this car much beyond 3-4yrs are minimal - he'll either total it somewhere, or sell it, so I'm prepared to take the low price, low durability trade off. Plus - he can buy his own tires next time!

It's weird that tirerack doesn't even sell falkens. I was going to read reviews.

The ziex is ok, I use them on my bmw.
The wear is horrendous but it's a bmw and the tires are dirt cheap.

I just bought these pirellis for the max because it's my daily
and you gotta have nice tires for a boat cruiser

Great reviews and they're cheaper on amazon btw.

Pirellis are good tires. They were on my list (together with the Michelins and Bridgestones).

I installed some Pirelli's this Monday. To be exact they were Pirelli Cinturano P7 all season plus (215 55r 16). And let me tell you they are the best tire I've ever had. Had some rain the past couple days in Miami and they stick to the floor. And no noise at all. I'm hoping they'll last a while.
