HID Mishaps

Hey guys im new here but ive had my maxima for a while! Im glad to finally join.

But I do have a pressing matter I need desperate help with.

My HID's have quit on me. So naturally I was on the hunt for a replacement for them but it turned out that I bought the wrong replacements. (I found out during the install) I accidentally ordered a HID conversion kit instead of a replacement kit. And even worse, to add to that, the grounding wire from the AM kit was ...basically ripped off in a freak accident amd now I cant return it. Can I fix my headlights with the conversion kit? Or did I just waste a ton of money?

Thanks for your help

I'm guessing you have a '02-'03?

You have to diagnose what HID components failed. It could be one of three things; Either the bulbs, ballasts or igniters.

Check fuses as well since it's odd that both sides went out at the same time.

ChrisMan is right, you need to diagnose it 1st.

But you could splice in the new components if the originals are bad.

Both lights are not going to quit working unless they're not getting power... or is there more to the story?

If your HID conversion kit is still usable(able to be installed in the car and work properly), you could buy some AMP to D2S/D2R converters(AMP connector on one end and a D2s/D2R connector on the other), and be able to use the ballasts with your stock HID bulbs. Some splicing will still be necessary to connect it to your stock wiring.

Let's step back and start with the basics:

What do you mean they quit? What is not coming on? Passenger low beam, driver low beam, both low beams, all four headlights?

Do they flicker at all when attempting to come on?

Okay yeah I guess I left out a lot of the discription. The lights are super dim for the right headlight and the left one just doesnt work at all. So I thought that the balasts and bulbs just died out and needed to be replaced. So im a bit overwhelmed in all the wires and everything because I dont want to fry my entire car. I think splicing it could work... but I have little experience in electrical work... so im a bit stuck right now...

Try just swapping in the new bulbs. Ballasts won't make the bulbs dim.. Just on or off. Sounds like a super old bulb to me that's on it's way out.

Could be a ground wire missing by the sound of it?
