Car wont accelerate

2002 Nissan Maxima GLE If anyone could help me with this problem, It would be greatly appreciated!!! Okay, I bought this car with a timing chain guide noise and recently got it fixed which was the tensioner that was making the sound. Okay before that my car was jerking and hestitating upon acceleration and the codes where at that time P0650, P0032, P0052, and P0430. So after I got the noise fixed, I crunk it up and it didnt rev as it should and when I test drove it, it would not accelerate above 20 mph. I disconnected the battery cable and it would rev up and go but it still jerked upon acceleration but bog right back down to 20 mph and pressing the gas made no difference. The codes I had were p1128, P0032, P0052, P0650, P01122, P0430, P0102, P0113 from what I could remember. So I bought a new MAF and Throttle Body and cleared the codes and only p0650, p1128, p0032, p0052 came back. I drove it for awhile and it was okay but it still jerked but i cleared the codes again and it didnt jerk anymore afterwards. After driving it for about 15 miles, it bog right back down to 20 mph and under. Wouldnt rev as much ( my rpm gauge doesnt work). Got home and reset codes, crunk it up and would rev up fine but it seemed like the car was back hesittating because when I would rev it up and press the gas on the way down it would make a vroom, vroom, vroom, vroom noise. So I took it to a mechanic and he did the relearn procedure (I also did it using the steps without the consult 2 when i replaced the tb and maf but I dont think it worked) but when he did it, it didnt work also. But now that I have gotten it back from him it doesnt rev and only goes 20 mph again. I'm stumped and i dont know what to do.

Okay, what you are doing is ignoring those codes based on what you said that you were trying to clear the codes, but it's always going to come back, so you need to focus on what those codes telling you and what possible causes of those fault codes and try to eliminate that. I see too often people just want the light off, in fact when it trying to tell you there is a problem when you are not fixing the possible causes. So you need to start there instead of asking everyone on here, since "we" do not know your car and what kind of issues there, all you can do is go off by the codes and dig deeper trying to isolate the problem. After all, that's what a problem codes are for. Since your post is very vague aside from the timing noise. Your RPM gauge is not working, then you got a sensor is out which is the VSS sensor, P1128 is your TBI , so you didn't indicate if your accelerator pedal TPS is communicating with the TBI since they don't use throttle cable like the pre 2001. as for P0032 and P0052 is have to do with your air/fuel ratio, number of factors, with the O2 sensor, IAT, MAF, MAP and possible vaccum leaks. How many miles does this car has?

You need to focus on your codes. They are telling you this:
  • P0650 - " Malfunction Indicator Lamp Control Circuit"; this code indicates a problem with your CEL light, and more likely, with the associated control circuit.
  • P1128 - "Throttle Control Motor Circuit (TCM) Short"; your TCM motor is faulty, or your TCM harness is open (or shorted), or otherwise messed up. See http://engine-codes.com/p1128_nissan.html for details.
  • P0032 - "Air Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 Heater Bank 1 Control Circuit High;" for details and possible causes, read more at http://engine-codes.com/p0032_nissan-2.html
  • P0052 - "HO2S21 Heater Control Circuit High"; again, see http://engine-codes.com/p0052_nissan.html for possible causes.

You need to address the above codes first. I would start with P1128: I believe that on your car, the TCM is built into the throttle body. Also, It looks like your car is in "limp" (fail-safe) mode. So something failed, hard.

However, given the number and severity of your codes, I wonder whether your ECU is OK. If I were you, I would take the car to the dealer, and I would have them diagnose the problem. Using CONSULT II, they can do it quickly and correctly; they will charge you a fixed fee (about $130 in my neighborhood). That's a good deal. Once they tell you what's wrong, you can decide how to fix the problem - you can do it yourself, or take it to your mechanic, or whatever. Good luck!

Okay, let me make clear. The car is a 2002 Nissan maxima that has 178,780 miles. Everything that I have replaced has been the Throttle body (two of those) and the MAF for this problem. No change. I haven't tried the O2 sensors just yet, but I will soon as I get the car back to the house. I have used 2 throttle bodies and still have received that p1128 code. I have used the search forum but I have yet to see some ppl respond to those that are having similar problems that I have.

That's why I am suggesting you have the dealer diagnose your problem.
It needn't be your Throttle Body at all. What if your ECU is faulty ? You'll be spending a lot of money if you just keep throwing parts at the problem ......

I second that, since replacing the same thing over and over is not really solving the problem and definite waste of money and time.

Check your ECU for burnt chips.. Came across a 2003 maxima with a shorted out engine mount that burnt a chip on the ECU. I had the MIL indictator light code as well.

I'm sorry maximal that was for the first person that replied. As for your advice I'm going to take it to Nissan Monday morning. But I have checked when pressing the gas, the throttle doesnt respond so it's not opening. And I have checked the ecu, it has something moving inside, I opened it and it was some kind of chip that came off one of three black things in the middle.

OK, it looks like your ECU is damaged; the moving "thing" inside is a burnt chip, probably one of the chips driving your Engine Mounts and/or IACV. It is well documented on this forum that when these parts fail, they usually damage the ECU.

You have a significant problem. To fix the car, you will need to do the following:
  1. ECU. You'll have to fix or replace your ECU. There are many ways to do it, more about that later. However, when you get your new/fixed ECU, do not plug it in !! Before you do that, you must first fix/replace the part that caused the ECU damage (or, it will do it again, it has happened to people on this forum). It is well known and documented here that failures of the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and/or of Electronic Engine Mounts do damage ECUs.
  2. IACV. If your IACV failed, you need to replace it. If it hasn't failed yet, you may want to implement some sort of preventative measure such as "Coolant Bypass (search for howto).
  3. Electronic Engine Mounts. On Maximas with AT, the Front and Rear engine mounts are electronic. When they fail, they can, and usually do, damage the ECU. In this case, here is a simple preventative measure - disconnect them. Again, use search for how to do this.
EDIT 12/13/2014: In fact, if your mounts go short, they may damage both your ECU and your IACV. See this post: https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...ml#post6937118 .

I would still take your car to the dealer and have it diagnose it (for the fixed fee). My guess is that the dealer will quote at least $2k to fix it. You can do it yourself for less, but it will take some effort.

It's a pity you spent money on replacing your TB (twice!) - I don't think it was the cause of your problems.

Like 60% of aftermarket parts on these cars seem to fail if aftermarket too

I've been told to replace with OEM if possible, Maxi's are picky.

Okay, I have spare ecu. In my area it's 45-90 an hour for diagnostic. It shouldn't take that long would it?

Nissan dealers usually do it for a fixed fee. You need to ask your dealer. And have him diagnose all possible problems - as I am sure you have more than one. Basically, you want him to identify all parts that are bad, not just the first one. This can only be done with Consult II - the Nissan diagnostic tool.

BTW, I assume that you know that when you replace your ECU (rather than fixing it), you'll have to have your car keys reprogrammed.

Yes, I know a friend told me awhile ago. But I'll have to call and see cause I do remember them saying 45-90 an hour when they did my crankshaft replacement for free when I had another problem (just a blown fuse). But thank you all for your help!

The IACV is mounted on the Throttle Body. You have to remove the air box to get to it.

The Electronic Mounts are mounted on the cross-member. However, the two connectors for the engine mounts are accessible from above. They are brown, and close to the AT dipstick. The connector numbers are F23 (front) and F9 (rear) - this is on my car (2000 SE).

Do you have the FSM (factory Service Manual) for your car? You can download it from here: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nis...e-manuals.html

Okay so I've tried to find the iacv but I guess my car doesn't have one it's a 2002, it's not connected to the throttle body.
