You know that weird looking flat box attached to the rubber pipes,
before the throttle body, what it that thing?

FrankenCar intake and the CAI removes that thing, but the other pop chargers dont. (Stillen, JWT, Berk Tech,).

Does that make a big difference? What's it's purpose?
I hope that thing is not too restrictive, cause I'm gonna just put a Berk Tech pop charger on my Max. Can't afford anything else at this point.

 

i was thinking about what it could be also.

i'm having trouble getting the stuff (template) i need to install the cai, so right now all i have it that weird box replaced and the k&n on the end. i was thinking maybe putting ther stock airbox back on but keeping the cai pipe on(the one that replaces the wird box) to see if it has any different affect over stock.

 

Somebody must know the answer to this!

 

If you're talking about the little box with the vacuum hoses attached then I think (not sure) it's a resonator to reduce/baffle the sound of the intake.

As I said, I'm not sure but what else could it be?

 

It is the intake silencer. Replacing it with a straight pipe (with the stock hoses of course) will make the intake breath better which equals better sound!

 

Anyone have a pic showing what "box" part to which we are referring?

 

the black box right after the MAF with the breather hose connected to it...
